A TRANSCRIPT FROM MICHAELS APPEARANCE ON BLUE PETER - 22/03/1984 - ๐ป
INTERVIEWER: What part do you play, Michael?
MICHAEL: I Play C.B the Red Caboose, which is the brake van at the end of the freight truck.
INTERVIEWER: What was the most complicated move you had to make?
MICHAEL: Well, I think the hardest thing Iโve got to do skating-wise in the show is race โThe Finalโ, which is a really long race that goes up and down the set a couple of times, and it goes very fast towards the end. It frightens me!
INTERVIEWER: Has anyone injured themselves yet โ got hurt?
MICHAEL: No, not really. We were well padded and uh โ we fall over and have bumps and bruises, but nothing serious.
INTERVIEWER: Well, Iโm really looking forward to seeing you, I canโt wait. I wish you the best of luck!
MICHAEL: Thank you.
INTERVIEWER: I hope you have a nice long run.
MICHAEL: So do I!

Traditionally, Blue Peter is the nickname given to the nautical signal flag that represents the letter โP.โ When communicating with signal flags, each letter of the alphabet has a specific meaning. The letter โPโ means โAll persons should report on board as the vessel is about to proceed to sea.โ So when a ship is flying Blue Peter, everyone knows that its voyage is about to begin.
The flag was used by the British Navy from 1777, and the name โblue peterโ had become common by the end of the 18th century.An all-blue flag had earlier seen use for the same purpose by the Dutch East India Company. While โblueโ obviously refers to the dominant colour of the flag, the origin of the second part of the term, โpeterโ, is unknown. Often said to be a corruption of โblue repeaterโ, there is actually no signal flag that goes by that designation. The use of the flag to spell the letter โPโ dates from 1857 and so cannot have played a role in the origin of the term.
