#silmarillion#blue mountains#lord of nogrod#honored nogrod elf guest ->#findaráto#finrod#lets not worry about whats going on with the petty dwarves right now#im sure this new and incredibly friendly relationship with their enemies will have no negative repercussions.#we can play spot the lord of nogrod. i will provide no hints or context for who it might be.#also i suppose ive potentially broken from canon yet again because ive made the lord of nogrod a woman (thumbs up)#ive also made every dwarf a woman- except for those individuals who just so happen not to be women.#to whom being a woman is like a part time job. or perhaps something one puts on for formal events. or something they have no#relationship or desire for at all.#summary: a default state from which one may deviate with little fanfare or comment. but a default state nonetheless.#which is translated over into another language and culture to which masculinity is the default state as as adoption of the default.#less that the translation is based on the concept of the gender described but moreso whats seen as an equivalent idea. if “he” is#the sindarin default. then when referring to the “default” they will just use he. this is seen as a better translation because “she”#leads to far more culturally clumsy misunderstandings. the trade off is the silly misconception that there are no dwarf women at all.#the reality is there is no easily translatable way to convey such a complicated and fundamental cultural difference. “he” was good enough.#it might be a touch easier if more than three elves bothered to understand khuzdul properly but here we are.#anyways. pretend that made sense to you and i explained it well.#dear findaráto is having a grand old time oohing and aahing and squealing etc. at everything he sees. which is not hard because it#is all very impressive. and also because it tickles his hosts and makes them more eager to show him ever more beautiful things.#(and also taking a mental note of that material made of interlocking rings... his cousins will be interested in that...)#he may be one of the three elves that bothered. at the very least hes very curious and willing to learn new things. more than willing hes#a little intense and voracious about new things but perhaps his natural skills at understanding languages will help him in this endeavor#i think i broke my hand off at the wrist drawing these today so im going to have a lie down on the river bank about it.#much love#art
