With basketball national championships in '76, '81, and '87 (during my lifetime, they also got it in both '40 and '53) this kind of thing was not unheard of in Bloomington, though certainly not for football.

I only took part in one of the celebrations (1981, with Isiah Thomas leading the team): I recall hanging out on top of one of the buildings seen in this video (across from Nick's, a well-known watering hole), to watch the goings-on below.

Hays Market

This image was made in Bloomington, Indiana, back in the day. I was studying photography at Indiana University, hence the black and white film used here.

In addition, I believe I was driving cab (Checkers, of course), the stand of which was located more or less kitty-corner from Hays Market, an institution in that town (gone now).

Arlington Quarry

This limestone quarry is near Arlington, off the northwest shoulder of Bloomington, Indiana. Scanned from a medium format negative.

Observatory

When I was in graduate school, I found an abandoned observatory on the east edge of town. I installed an old bed frame over the empty space in the floor and took this picture. Scanned from a medium format negative.

Dust Drop

For my MFA thesis I made a series of images in a defunct limestone mill in Bloomington, Indiana. Here my body weight in limestone dust was dumped from above with results recorded on video, movie film, and still. This image scanned from a thirty-five millimeter negative.
