I feel like we skipped a step, maybe this is where the discomfort come from. Normally we go through times changes in a more smooth way, with acceptance and understanding but that's not what happened.
After 2014 something broke, the transition was abrupt and we felt it in 2017 and the consequences in 2019. Let me explain my observation, how I see things since the 90s:
2017-2018 final transition
And since 2019 I donât feel any transition anymore, it seems like these last years are stuck together. CollĂ©! Btw, this is also how I unintentionally separate the generation. Those "boomers, millennials, gen z" titles are for me, more like a catch-all.
But yeah, there are also neutral periods imo, as if it was preparing for the transitions. For example I was explaining to someone that "2000s music" stops at 2006 and maybe 2007 (deadline) but certainly not in 2008/2009. Idk how you feel about times changes and eras in general, but some things can be felt. 2008/2009 is neutral, or 2009 can be put in the 2010s era.
And in term of proximity between generations, itâs all relative donât necessarily mean anything when our lived experience and area are whatâs most true to generational indication. For exemple I saw many many times 98 ppl being closer to 99 and 2000 kids instead of 97 and prior.
