#blindbox bjd

I like blindbox bjds because they're already "complete" right out of the box and for the price, they are sturdy enough. I see them and treat them like Nendoroids. I do think that the whole blindbox aspect can be predatory especially for people who may have addiction and gambling problems, who suffers from FOMO easily, or are very impulsive. For me they are a boon, as they are a cheaper option for my son who is also interested in dolls and likes to play with them to bond with me. We don't buy an entire series, usually we just get him his most favorite in a series.

I don't think blind box bjds are bad, I actually think they're really cool. But I do think they belong in a different category than regular bjd. Other than both being strung dolls with ball joints, they don't have a lot of similarities and seem to serve fundamentally different purposes

The same people who complain about others "not doing anything creative with blindbox dolls" have a bunch of fullset company faceup dolls sitting on shelves collecting dust. If not that: a bunch of nude faceless dolls, unpainted floating heads, untouched dolls still in boxes that they bought on impulse, dolls they haven't touched in months to years because their hoards are too big, or all of the above. Take several seats and stop worrying about what others do with their dolls.

it's one thing to call blind box BJDs consumerist slop, but do people forget all of these mass-produced products still had actual human designers behind the scenes? even butt-ugly dolls still needed an actual human to conceptualize those designs and engineer those bodies, it's not like AI is advanced enough to just spit them out fully made. stop blaming artists for the sins of corporations.

No hate to blind box bjd collectors (there's some I want to get for myself!), but I get why some people are wary of them in bjd spaces. I feel like the aesthetic tends to read more like a nend0roid or pur3 neem0 than a "traditional" abjd.

Why is it that blind box players are allowed to dislike the big resin/vinyl dolls but big resin/vinyl doll players are gatekeeping elitists if they dislike blind boxes
