I never would have guessed a year ago that sobriety would change my life so much. I’ve grown more in 1 year than I have in the previous 10. My life stopped when I started getting stoned and drunk. Weed and alcohol were truly holding me down. I wasn’t living. Just surviving. I was stuck in a job that was just a means of getting money so I could buy more weed. I couldn’t get a new job because I couldn’t drive or pass a drug test. At 3 months sober I moved up at work to become a shift lead. At 5 months sober I finally got my drivers license and purchased my own car. At 8 months sober I became the assistant general manager. All of these accomplishments and more allowed me to finally get a job in a field that I truly love.

My mom told me how proud she is of me, but I know these are not my accomplishments. They are my higher power’s. Trust in something greater than myself is why I’m here now. I’m simply a piece of the universe and I just needed to ask for help, listen, and practice humility to tap in.
