Blazon Stone - Down In The Dark (2017)
Tuesday, April 11: Blazon Stone, āAmistad Rebellionā
Nobody was expecting an homage to late ā80s/early ā90s Running Wild in 2013, especially considering that Rolf Kasparek himself seemed tired of the concept at that point, but there was Blazon Stone and Return to Port Royal, both band name and album title deliberately recalling some of Kasparekās career highlights.Ā And sure enough, Blazon Stone sounded more like Running Wild than anything Kasparek delivered in a long time: Erickās vocals may have sounded more like Jag Panzerās Harry Conklin than Rock ānā Rolf, but Ced- who played everything else- wrote and arranged every song as if he was auditioning for the Pile of Skulls lineup, and āAmistad Rebellionā played like a Black Hand Inn outtake. Ā Sure, the idea was silly, but this sort of speedy and trashy Germanic power metal was in such short supply that it was hard to suppress a grin at such unabashed hero worship. Ā
