Ok imagine youve immensely struggled with coming to terms with your homosexuality for years and it takes a lot of pain and self acceptance and even bullying others for being gay but you finally get into your first serious gay relationship. You date for several months, you fall in love, you move in together. Then one day hes like hey i kissed my ex boyfriend that im still in love with so yeah.
call me crazy but i think any human being would hear this and be at least a little bit angry, no?? instead doormat dave does not really gaf and even has this go get him tiger attitude, encouraging blaine to go get kurt back. The way he acts in this scene you would think blaine had forgotten to turn off the stove or something.
Like ohhh look he used to slam people into lockers and now hes handling this betrayal like such a champ aww look hes so nice and sweet🥰😍 hey glee so thats actually not how humans work❤️ karofsky can be a good, changed person and at the same time also be mad that he got cheated on. A redemption arc does not mean becoming a saint. Im not saying he needs to slam blaine into a locker im just saying some (deserved) emotion would be nice, which i assume was avoided to end this placeholder relationship as swiftly as possible
It just bothers me because karofksy is overall a very compelling character seasons 2 and 3 with a great character arc but i just cannot stand what they did with him!! Season 6 karofksy is literally just a plot device to keep klaine apart for Drama™️ until the writers decide its time for them to get back together

Blaine dated Dave to:
1) get back at Kurt for breaking his heart.
Blaine had a history of finding ways to lash out at Kurt when he himself felt hurt, so this isn’t out of character for him. Dating Dave would hurt Kurt, more than anyone else could (even more than Sebastian like some people try to claim. usually by Klainers who don’t want to say it was fucked up Blaine dated Dave, so they want to act like Sebastian was the worse choice and would feed way more into Kurt’s insecurities…but come on... Dave kissed Kurt and then threatened to kill him and then confessed his love to him. Sebastian was just kinda annoying...and I think this comes from how Kurt’s mind always went to Sebastian first when Blaine cheated/Blaine said he had a boyfriend, but if anything, that proves what a sucker punch Blaine dating Dave was that it didn’t even seem like it could be a possibility), because Dave had once made Kurt feel so unsafe he had to go to Dalton. And Blaine is the only person Kurt trusted to tell about the kiss in s2.
2) to keep some connection to Kurt, who he still wanted to be with.
Dave is the reason Klaine started dating, he’s a symbol of the foundation of their relationship. They also bonded over their mutual obsession over Kurt, as Dave had once been in love with Kurt as well. Truly, no one else could have possibly been the love interest for Blaine this season, because the entire point of s6 are these characters regressing before they could move on from the past. Like how Blaine went back to Dalton, he used Dave as a way to bring himself back to a time he still had Kurt. When Kurt saw Blaine as his hero, something we know from Tested was incredibly important to Blaine, and what he felt kept Klaine’s relationship stable. Klaine could not exist without Dave, but Blaine also felt Klaine could not survive without the dynamic Dave had inadvertently gave them, where Kurt would always “need” Blaine as his protector.
But much like when Blaine cheated, much like It’s Not Right But It’s Okay or Tested, Blaine realized hurting Kurt didn’t actually make him feel better.
If you pay attention to Blaine’s body language and tone when it comes to his relationship with Dave, especially when Kurt is around, it’s obvious that he was only using Dave and had no real feelings for him. When Kurt tells him he found a date, something that should make Blaine glad, he’s instantly jealous. After they kiss in the elevator, Blaine is so eager to cheat on Dave, trying to goad Kurt into a full on affair after Kurt rigs the wheel so they can duet (and is confused when Kurt’s like “well obviously there’s no tension between us”), and kisses Kurt on his own, even though Kurt had been the one chasing after him initially this season. Blaine realized he had no use for Dave anymore, he didn’t want to make Kurt jealous/lash out at him, and he didn’t need a reminder of past Kurt when he had current Kurt right in front of him, so Blaine abandons Dave without a second thought and kisses Kurt.
If dating Dave meant nothing to Kurt or Blaine, like people who want to soften the decision say so, then Blaine could have dated anybody else. He could have dated a new minor character, the way Kurt dated Walter. But no. Blaine specifically chose to date Dave, in this specific season, for these specific reasons that tie to these specific characters. They have a history together that nobody else could compare to.
I think some people treat Klaine as if they’re just generic character #1 and generic character #2 and they just want them to do sweet, generic things together and disregard their canon, and that’s why Blainofsky is so random to people and why they say things like "in my mind klaine never cheated!". But Klaine are made up of the specific things they went through throughout the show. Klaine would not be Klaine if it wasn’t for Transitioning, if it wasn’t for The Breakup, or Dance with Somebody, or TFT, or Prom Queen, or Never Been Kissed. They wouldn’t be Klaine if you erased any of those things, including the stuff fans claim the writers only did to “ruin them”.
Klaine would not be Klaine without Dave Karofsky.
And so, Dave is the only person Blaine could have dated in season 6. And this decision is built on other decisions Blaine had made before in the show. It’s not OOC, it’s not random, and once someone lets go of sweet puppy happy fanon Blaine who would NEVER hurt Kurt!, you realize canon Blaine is soo much more interesting.
A S4 AU where post Blaine cheating, Kurt meets Sebastian [they're the same age] in New York. Their initial meetings are full of tension and a bit of awkwardness because they never interacted with Blaine not in the picture. Sebastian having grown as a person is scandalized that Blaine cheated, he jokes that he's upset that it wasn't with him.
But they keep meeting, neither can tell why they keep coming back to the same bar or cafe, but they keep coming back. They talk, Kurt talks about Vogue and NYADA, Sebastian talks about NYU or Columbia [insert major]. After a few meetings, Sebastian has a moment of 'damn he's hot now' and Kurt has a moment of 'he's really pretty when he's being nice'.
They both freak out about it, Kurt because it's Sebastian and Sebastian because he kind of wants like more than a one night stand with Kurt/wants to hold his hand/aahhhhh?? Kurt tries to date other people, like Adam, and Sebastian gets really jealous.
Kurt goes back to Lima for Will's wedding, and Blaine tries to hook up with him. Kurt almost accepts but can't knowing he has growing feelings for Sebastian. The moment solidifies it for Kurt that these feelings aren't going away.
When he gets back to NY, Kurt starts focusing on Sebastian, trying to figure out if his feelings are unrequited or not. Eventually Sebastian bites the bullet and kisses Kurt on one of their outings, Kurt freezes before smiling and kissing back.
Back in Lima, Blaine is devastated from losing Kurt, even more so when Kurt starts posting pictures with Sebastian, he is absolutely gutted when Kurt's status changes from 'Single' to 'In A Relationship with Sebastian Smythe'.
Most of the New Directions are not cool about it, talking shit about Sebastian and asking Kurt how he could do this to Blaine. [Weird how none of them are getting onto Blaine about it] The only few on his side are his roommates [Rachel and Santana] and his stepbrother.
Blaine graduates and goes to NYADA, but very quickly falls apart with Kurt and Sebastian's relationship now on full display in front of his face. He drops out and moves back to Ohio, transferring to a state school while he figures out his next steps.
He goes to Scandals one night and meets Dave, Blaine tries to jump into a relationship but Dave can tell he's not ready for one. He's like, "I like you dude, but you need to figure yourself out first."
So Blaine does, he blocks Kurt for a bit so that he isn't constantly seeing what he's up to. He gets a therapist, he continues his education and finds himself wanting to be back with the Warblers, he loved show choir, he felt best doing show choir and being at Dalton. So he adjusts his major and makes that his new goal.
When he's eventually in a better place, him and Dave revisit the possibility of a relationship.
And both Kurt and Blaine get to be happy, it's not with the person they thought it would be, but they're happy and that's what matters.
kind of insane au, but seeing darren in acs just made me think how successful blaine could be as a high end escort 🙂↕️. like if things didn't go well... if instead of sending him to Dalton his dad kicked him out of the house. blaine and sam sharing a room in Columbus and then in New York trying to put together enough money to pay the rent, until they get into the right market (old closeted men) and they love him, how much he likes vintage fashion and how talented and pretty he is, how well read and smart, honest and emotional to a fault. blaine keeps falling in love with his clients who can't and don't want to reciprocate, until finally he meets (insert preferred ship partner here) and things start looking up 🙂↕️👏
