A D E A L L D A Y by @fahamupecou on Instagram π β¨(2020) ββAdeβ means crown in the Yoruba language. But a crown in the context of Yoruba spirituality is much more than an ornate headpiece, it is the physicalization of oneβs purposeβ¦ oneβs direction. A popular adage of Yoruba philosophy asserts that βit is with its head that a fish cuts through the river. It is with its head that the bird pierces the skyβ. In other words, head first is how we fulfill our destiny in this life.ββ βIn this painting, our protaganist dons a crown of cotton. It is an embrace of a legacy that many view as a traumaβ¦ But in embracing this cotton crown, and declaring his KINGLY presence, he reclaims the noble labor and majesty of our ancestors. The piece also pays homage to the Orisha Obatala. The chief Orisha, Obatala also represents the headβ¦ wisdom, patience, and cool headedness. ADE ALL DAYβ¦ because no tortureβ¦ no weaponβ¦ no enemy can ever take away from us what is ours. REGAL is a birthright.β #SupportBlackArt #FahamuPecou β¨https://www.instagram.com/p/CKfop1zhefi/?igshid=p01ql8q187ps
