Are his lifeless eyes due to the constant fatigue from making the babies feed on his e-pulse or did he always have them? And since he’s fervent on the idea of family and second chances, it definitely shows that his past definitely revolved around wanting to atone for something. If you see the opening, there is a scar on his neck that is partially shown as his hair and jacket collar cover it. On top of that, he’s someone who keeps secret from his so-called family despite trusting them. If he trusts them, why keep it a secret? It’s not like they’re going to report him to the government or anything… it does show that he still has some trust issues that aren’t fully addressed. I could just be overthinking it though.

I think the best part about this episode as a whole is to see it from Tomoro’s perspective. In the earlier episodes, he was upset that Asuka was keeping secrets from him and he was also upset that Kyo did the same too. However, this time, he was able to talk it out and understand why Kyo kept it a secret, and decides that he wants to help out at the end alongside Reina and Makoto. I also like that Cougarmon isn’t particularly keen on the idea of Kyo keeping secrets either, showing that even if Digimon are born from someone’s Sapotama, they have their own will, even if it’ll clash against their Owners.

I think BlackGaogamon’s whole story is tragic in that he’s a gentle Digimon who doesn’t want to harm people, but since his Owner wanted him to hurt people, their ideals clashed and then BlackGaogamon was chained and abandoned. However, Digimon feed on e-pulse and if they don’t get enough, they’ll disappear. Seeing how Pandamon was roaming around without an Owner and was later adopted by Sasatake, it shows that not all Owners are good people and not all Digimon will be accepted by the Sapotama users. This means that Pandamon was likely abandoned by his Owner. I’m always impressed with how Beatbreak always seems to answer the questions that I have whenever I watch an episode. However, it has still yet to answer when Gekkomon will evolve.

Still, I find the idea of Kyo owning a Digimon daycare so sweet. For me, the top mother character in Digimon is Sayuri Daimon (Sarah Damon), from Digimon Savers who is Masaru’s mother. I feel like after this episode, Kyo is easily on par with Sayuri as the best mom character. Who cares if Kyo is a guy? He’s mom-coded.

We get our first glimpse of the rival Cleaners or the villainous Cleaners in this episode. They are called the Five Stars and they’re based on Wuxing, which are the five Chinese elements: Wood, Fire, Earth, Metal and Water. Wuxing has been commonly used in past Digimon series like how the Holy Beasts’ elements are based on Wuxing and such. One person did point out that the monkey Digimon that took Asuka’s e-pulse could be Gokuumon who is based on Sun Wukong, there could be a Journey to the West theming going on. I do wonder what sort of personality and what sort of Digimon they’ll have. Will their partners be newly designed Digimon or will they be ones that were shown in previous media?

BlackGaogamon is voiced by Satoshi Tsuruoka who has been in Digimon in the past. He voiced Candlemon in Frontier, Director Hashiba in Savers, and Goblimon in the Savers movie. I find it a bit amusing that BlackGaogamon appeared in the Digimon anime where the narration is done by Kazuya Nakai, who voiced Gaomon and his evolutions, which includes regular Gaogamon, in Savers and is voiced by someone who was in Savers in the past. Is this coincidence? Also, it seems that even in the baby forms, Digimon do retain their voice actors like how Punimon is still voiced by Daisuke Kishio who voiced Hyemon Pierced and Fangmon.

The title of this episode is called Nirinsou, which is the Anemone flaccidum or the flaccid anemone which is commonly known as the soft windlfower (the flowers are shown in the picture below). In flower language, they mean “friendship”, “cooperation”, “never parting”, and “everyone deserves a second chance”, which befits the theme of this episode and Kyo’s goal. I think it’s rather poetic. By the way, did they get a new microwave or did Tomoro cook the food in the shelter’s kitchen? And who is Yoshimura? Anyways, I enjoyed this episode and I can’t wait for next week!
