Attention! I am sending a message to the free world. The Polish government is trying to silence our cause as soon as possible. We cannot allow it! People of the whole world help! Not with advice, nor with words but with deeds! SOS!
On 22 of October 2020, Constitutional Tribunal of Poland declared that abortion due to foetal abnormalities is unconstitutional. This decision bans abortion in the country as 98% of all legal abortions performed in Poland were due to foetal abnormalities. This decision sparked an outburst among Polish women (who btw do not have representatives within the government, except for 3-4 women the government is made up with only white, old, cis, men) who've been protesting ever since.
To make the whole situation even worse, on October 24th 2020 tight restrictions (basically lockdown but the government doesn't want to call it 'lockdown') has been imposed on Poland due to COVID-19 pandemic. Among those restrictions is a ban on gatherings of more than 5 people! Women aren't even allowed to protest against the new law BECAUSE they will get finned 500-5000 PLN (130-1300 USD or 99,5-955 GBP). It is important to say that an average salary in Poland for a man is 5024 PLN and for women, it's 4019 PLN WITHOUT a tax. After taxation, it's 3768 PLN for a man and 3014 for a woman (983 USD for men and 782 USD for women or 750 GBP form men and 599 GBP for women per month). As you can see to pay ONE fine of 5000PLN, a woman would have to work for 3 months AND you can get multiple fines during one gathering. Polish government made it illegal to protest!
Women of Poland aren't giving up yet! Pregnancy changes women lives and bodies forever. It's exhausting, inconvenient and scaring for both body and mind. From postpartum depression to tear in abdominal muscles, uterus flopping onto bowel (which makes sex painful btw), back problems, weight gain, damaged joints and saggy boobs. Yet, many women believe that it is all worth having a baby. Now imagine a situation in which you have to go through 12 hours of labour, all consequences and difficulties of pregnancy and you're not revered with the baby you sacrificed your body for. Not only this, but you are forced to watch it die in pain due to abnormalities because terminating this pregnancy is considered as inhuman by your country law. In my opinion, forcing women to go through this IS inhuman. In a way, torturing women has been legalised in Poland.
That is why I'm asking you to spread the message! Sisters from all countries make some noise! Let know the Polish government that there is no tolerance for torturing women. Be militant, each of you in your own way. Those of you who can donate, donate! Those of you who can protest do so! Women of Poland have been left with no alternative, but to defy this government!
