The anons over at bjdquestions can be really rude. Saying things like "matches for x company" or "hybrids for company x". What the hell! No please? No thank you? Not even a hello? Those aren't even complete sentences! The mod works hard combing through information to answer each question, can't you even be polite about it!?

So I want to get into making bjd's and I want to know if there is a certain kind of clay I need to use to sculpt everything and also if there's a specific material needed for the finished doll (also need info on what kind of paint is needed for the face and such) :3
It seems the clay you use depends largely on personal preference. Some artists use La-doll, some like Apoxie sculpt, some like sculpy. Each have their pros and cons. Most people produce their finished dolls by casting them in resin, though some people do porcelain BJD's too.
As for faceups, It will depend on what material your final doll is made of.

Hi, hate to be a bother but I'd like to know if there's a decent resin match for Doll-Love pink. My new girl is gonna need some heeled feet and I can't seem to find them on the Doll-Love site.
Questions are never a bother! That’s what I’m here for! As far as your question goes, there is next to no information on resin matches for Doll Love, which is incredibly frustrating. Perhaps try contacting Mint on Card? They deal for Doll Love and I have heard they sometimes help people with resin comparisons.
Sorry I couldn’t be more helpful!
EDIT:
sunimoon says
To DL person... My bestie owns a Doll Love boy in pink, and she says he matches her dollzone pink boy. But the DZ pink is older. Take this with a grain of salt, and send a message to MoC. :3 But I think they will probably match. :) More info on this when I see her next monday, and take comparison pics.
Thanks!
As for that foot cracks thing - the doll might be strung too tight. Loosening the elastic should prevent more cracking.
Thanks for the helpful pointer, it is something to consider, though I wouldn't think tight stringing would cause cracks on the top of the foot, and thin pieces like the edge of knees/ankles/wrists would be most likely to crack first.

HELP! I have a 16cm Sara IS head and I can't find a body anywhere for her!! I was checking out the Lati Yellow's bodies and I was wondering if you think the head will fit? They are both 16cm, the Lati doll's neck is 4.5 cm but I can't find the measurement for the IS orz I really want to get her a body!
Hmmm. This is a difficult one. I can't find ANY information about the IS 1/12th dolls neck size and as far as i know no one has tried this hybrid before. I will say that the proportions of the IS head on the Lati body will be different to the normal Lati dolls. Lati's have much bigger heads than your Sara. If you like the Lati's proportions then maybe it's not the body for you.
I would also try dropping Mint on Card, or one of the other IS dealers an email. Maybe they can tell you Sara's neck size? Either way i hope you can get an answer.
Same anon as with the Sara head!! Do you think the normal pink skin will match the normal skin? ahh Dx
Wow...that normal pink skin is REALLY pink. I don't think that's even going to come close at matching Lati resin if it's really as pink as it looks in the pictures. From the comparisons I can find, it's pinker than Fairyland resin, which is apparently quite close to Lati resin. I can't find any direct comparisons though. Information on IS dolls is hard to find.
I hope that helped!
Hello~ ^^ I was hoping you could help me with picking my first BJD, I've been following the hobby for quite awhile and spend hours browsing company sites, but it's so hard to decide on a doll (just too many choices!). Would you recommend getting a full set or getting a basic doll w/ face-up and buying clothes separately? I'm really interested in Crobidoll, Ringdoll, and Doll Chateau's dolls, but do they have good posing ability and are the companies reliable? Thank you for your time! <3
Hmm...a difficult question. Ultimately your doll choices are a personal thing and no one can tell you what doll to pick. Is there a doll that just grabs you? One you keep coming back to look at over and over? If so then maybe that's the one for you. Some things to keep in mind are Size: Do you want a big doll or a small doll. Get about a tape measure and measure out the sizes that you're interested in. It's hard to get a grasp of sizes without a visual reference. Price: What's your budget? Do you have a limit? Ease of clothing: Some sizes are downright hard to buy clothes for. If you want to buy clothes in a certain style some dolls are going to be frustrating to find clothes for.
As for fullset vs basic, once again there's no hard and fast answer. Do you like the fullset? would you use it a lot? if so then it may be the better choice, but if you don't see yourself using it then it's a bit pointless. Buying clothes can get pricey though (and watch for shipping charges). You can also sew your own. It takes a bit of learning but once you get the basics down you can make so many things.
As for the companies you're interested in at the moment they all seem quite reliable. Doll Chateau had some delays a little while ago, but I think they’re back on track now. Ringdoll had massive problems last year, and disappeared for a bit but it seems they’re now up and running again and getting orders out promptly. As for posing it largely depends on the size of the doll but I haven’t heard any drastic things about their posing. I haven’t handled any Crobidolls but they seem to be generally not bad posers. They’re not the best and not the worst but fall somewhere in the middle. I have handled a Ringdoll in person and they have this unusual quality to their resin that makes them pose quite nicely. It’s very toothy and grippy. I have also handled a Doll chateau briefly and their posing seemed quite good, though I have heard that the larger dolls are a bit difficult to stand.
Ultimately your first doll should be a doll that you really love. Don’t worry about other people and what they think, or what’s going to be ‘popular’ just get a doll that you love.
I hope that was helpful!
I love the size and convenience of yosd (and smaller) dolls but what I really want is a delicate, adult proportioned tiny. I've found one through notdoll (or roxydoll) but I don't like her face much. :( Are there any other companies out there that make dolls with similar builds in that size?
There’s a bunch of companies that make mature tinies. I’d check out the following
Resinsoul 30cm’s – still child like in the body but long and slim.
Sugarble’s Sugar Sleek line- these dolls have the option of a mature body
Soom Mini Gems- standard mini gems are available from soom. There are also the Faery Legend line which are limiteds and would have to be bought second hand
Planetdoll 27cm’s- Planetdolls tinies are like shrunk versions of their MSD’s.
Limhwa To You line (sold out)- I believe these dolls are now discontinued but they can be found secondhand.
Unoa chibi- Once again these girls would need to be bought secondhand.
Elfdoll tinies- These are slim tinies but perhaps not as mature as some.
Unoa Light- more mature proportioned tinies. Once again these dolls aren’t being sold anymore and would have to be bought secondhand.
Saintbloom- More mature tinies with teen proportions
Souldoll little- Souldolls 1/6th line. They are sold out on the site and would have to be bought secondhand.
Lumedoll light- more adult propotions, and available new!
Momocolour- Another more mature tiny body
I hope that was helpful!
