From there they patiently watch for prey. Their favorite target is lemmings—small mouselike rodents—but they also hunt for other small rodents, rabbits, birds, and fish.Snowy owls have excellent eyesight, but they obviously can't see their prey when it's underneath snow or a thick layer of plants. To capture those meals, the owl relies on its other keen sense: hearing.

An Indian Pond Heron is often an overlooked one, because it is everywhere. However, on more than one occasion, I have found one that filled my frame beautifully- like this janaab. I was sitting idle waiting for darters in the lake to catch something substantial when this heron came and sat nearby. It kept perched for a while for me to notice it and take a few photographs.
