There are moments when leadership means standing up to your own side. This week, Sen. John Fetterman made it crystal clear where he stands. After Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez suggested that U.S. support for Israel was facilitating โgenocideโ in Gaza, Fetterman forcefully rejected that claim โ calling out what he described as a growing anti-Israel โrotโ within parts of his own party. He didnโt hedge.ย He said plainly: there was no genocide โ and that Israel is fighting an existential war. In a political climate where many choose silence, triangulation, or trendy slogans, that kind of clarity stands out. You donโt have to agree with John Fetterman on everything to recognize this: When antisemitic rhetoric creeps into mainstream discourse, it matters who pushes back โ especially when it comes from inside the same political tent. Support for Israel should never be a partisan litmus test. And calling out dangerous language shouldnโt be controversial. This week, he did both.
