One of the greatest frustrations about doing a 3D archaeologically-based model is that, unless the building is still standing (which is rare), we don’t know how tall a building it

Durham is in the North East of England, about 15 miles south of Newcastle. The City and surrounding County itself is filled with stunning architecture, scenic walking routes and plenty of things to do to keep the whole family entertained. At the beginning of the Summer we were invited by This is Durham to spend a few days in Durham to explore what the city and the surrounding area had to offer.…

LOOK AT MY BEAUTIFUL (still unfinished) MODEL
I FOUND A SITE REPORT FROM THE TIME TEAM
(I am doing my work placement on Binchester Roman Fort - I’ll be building a 3D model of it - and am trawling through ADS for everything that’s been published relating to it and OMG THEY DID PROFESSIONAL WRITE UPS I’M DYING)
Durham: An historical theme park in waiting?
Durham: An historical theme park in waiting?
Durham, the county in the North East of England where I grew up, is barely recognisable these days. Gone are the pits and the slag heaps and the steel works to be replaced with fecund sweeps of arable crops, fluffy, white sheep and trees – lots and lots of trees.

But even though most of the ugly scars that pitted the landscape are gone, that’s not to say the county has buried its…

Questions remain about future of Binchester Roman fort site
An MP is to seek talks with Church Commissioners in a bid to ensure an internationally-important Roman fort in the North East is protected for future generations.
Binchester Roman Fort near Bishop Auckland, County Durham, has been dubbed the Pompeii of the North after archeologists unearthed artefacts dating back 1,800 years.
But there are fears for its future because the Church Commissioners, who own the land, have put it up for sale as separate lots.
Helen Goodman, Labour MP for Bishop Auckland, raised a series of questions about the sale in the House of Commons. Read more.
1,800-year-old Roman site up for sale in Co Durham
One of the most important archaeological sites in the North East is up for sale.
Binchester Roman town near Bishop Auckland is being sold by the Church Commissioners. Auckland Castle Trust say they fear it may fall into the hands of developers and have put in a £2m bid to buy the site.
But the Church Commissioners say fears of development on the site are "a scare story" and it is protected not just by the landowner but by the County Council, English Heritage and the Secretary of State.
Binchester, just outside Bishop Auckland, has some of Britain's best-preserved Roman remains, including a bath house with seven-foot walls and painted plaster. Read more.
Today was a lot better, ESFP, ESTJ girl (or that'd be my guess) and I were moved up so we weren't climbing the slope and we became a tighter-knit group as a result. We were joking more. We also found a huge amount of bones in a very small area. Five large ziplock bags, I think. More bags than any other days this week. Today was a better day. Also our coach driver today is very fun and friendly. I'm really glad we got on the coach where we did, though the rain is heavy now. archaeology 2014
