to put it simply, bellamy isn’t doing well. the moment he found out, his world ended. what was a life without clarke griffin-blake? his wife, soul mate, life partner. it was a life that he didn’t care to live in. he wanted to break down, to lock himself in their room, bury his nose into her pillow and keep it close until he couldn’t smell her scent in the fabric any longer. that wasn’t an option though. bellamy /had/ to stay strong. to not allow her death to ruin him. after all, they have five children together. five babies that needed him more than ever, and he refuses to let them down. while he wants nothing more than to break down, leave this world and join clarke in the next, he has to remind himself to keep going, for the kids.
gus, their eldest, has taken it upon himself to help bellamy with the other kids. help them get ready for the day, pour their cereal in the mornings, remind them to brush their teeth, help pack their bags. something bellamy wasn’t too fond of, since he too was a child that had far too much responsibility thrust upon him. but gus insisted. being the eldest, at 12 years old, he was one of the only of the five that actually understood that mom was truly gone, never to return.
rey, the second eldest, at 9 (almost 10) years old, also understood that mommy was gone. she knew death was final, that mommy didn’t leave them for a new life, that she was taken from them in the cruelest of ways. what she misses the most is being curled up on the couch with clarke and watching disney princess movies while clarke braids her hair. she also misses clarke reading her bedtime stories. often clarke would tease her for still wanting them at almost ten years old, but it was something rey always looked forward to each night.
max, at 6, is taking it the hardest. he was certainly a mommy’s boy and favored her over bellamy. he doesn’t quite grasp that she’s gone, he still thinks she’ll be coming back one day. he does have frequent nightmares, often waking up screaming out for his mom. he now sleeps in bellamy’s bed with him, too afraid to sleep alone now. clarke was max’s whole world and not having her around has regressed him some developmentally. he’s been throwing frequent tantrums, there’s not a day that goes by where he hasn’t burst into tears at least once. he misses her snuggles and smothering kisses more than anything.
the twins, tony and tori are taking it the best out of all the children, at being only 2 years old. they don’t understand where mommy’s gone, and it’s easy to distract the two from any sadness at not having her around. what they miss the most are all of clarke’s lullabies that she would sing to sooth them.
