I'm actually still so fucking furious about what we as a society do to visibly intersex newborns.
Cosmetic, medically-unnecessary gender assignment surgeries (forced assimilation) that prioritize visual adherence to the norm over functionality.
On babies. Freshly born infants.
Without actually explaining why this is happening to the parents, acting like it is medically necessary for the child's ability to engage with society (as if something like that shouldn't be an informed decision made by the individual when they can actually consent), or even just straight-up lying and saying that it's necessary for their physical health; all to maintain the sex binary.
Transphobes will yap on and on about "genital mutilation" (by which they supposedly mean gender reassignment surgery; a rigorously moderated* informed decision which is never performed before the individual has been evaluated for the ability to give informed consent and typically only done on adults. *requires the recomendation of multiple medical professionals responsible for the person's care) but be completely unaware of --or simply turn a blind eye to-- the actual un-consented unnecessary entirely-cosmetic frequently-desensitizing functionally-mandatory* genital surgeries performed nigh-ubiquitously (in USAmerica) on literal actual newborn babies. [* theoretically doctors could forgo the surgeries, however they are required to determine an assigned sex for the infant before the child is allowed to leave the hospital] Largely without the true informed consent of the parents or guardians.
(And heyyy actually, while we're on the topic maybe we should discuss circumcision, too, because that's a pretty weird thing to do if you actually stop to think about it. Just a thought. Figured I might bring it up while we're here although I can't really provide much insight into that. If anyone has any info, please feel free to share.)
Like, so it's a problem when adults make a carefully-considered decision to have a specialist modify their body to suit their needs
-- because it allows them to escape the boxes you put us all in;
but when an actual infant has a non-consensual surgery performed on them by just whoever is able to do it in the hospital they're born in regardless of how it might affect the functionality of their body
-- that's all fine, because it firmly forces them into the boxes you put us all in.
Like, am I getting this reasoning correctly, here?
Is that not what the argument is?
And for what, maintaining the binary sex social paradigm so that you can force us all into particular roles to benefit those at the top?
Is the conservative take really just "reject diversity; force assimilation" like some kind of token distopian villainous overlords???
Are we really all just breeding stock to produce the next generation of cannon fodder sacrificed to the grinding machine of corporate profits? Is that really all humanity is to you?
No bright moments of brilliant variation or beautiful ingenuity or bold self-determinism driving us all forward into a lovely future where we all get to be magnificent vibrant individuals forging our own paths and creating our own destinies?
No infinite possibilities of human variation; just two narrow catagories of existence with strict rules and roles for each, determined since birth with no room for diversity, just phallus or no-phallus deciding everything about how you're going to live your entire life??
That's all this life is to you?
Is that all that you think we are??
