Iโve driven my BMW 2002ย ๐ฉ๐ช for 46 years. Last weekend there was a 2002 meetup near @AlkiSurfShopย ๐๏ธ. I arrived at the end, & about 10 cars were still thereย ๐. CAR STORIES How did you learn to driveย ๐? I took driverโs education in high school. It was great because: โข High school teachersย ๐งโ๐ซย picked up extra cashย ๐ตย teaching kids to drive โข Students had affordable access to learningย ๐ โข It was โfunโ to learn with classmatesย ๐ซ In 2002 Washington State stopped funding driverโs ed, but with crashes among teens risingย ๐, funding may be returningย ๐ฐ. I knew nothing about cars when I was 17ย ๐ง. I remember being behind the wheel & seeing terrified male classmates in the rearview mirrorย ๐ฒ. My driving teacher kept his foot poised on the instructorโs safety brake pedal. At first, I was awfulย โ. The good news is I became a good driverย ๐. FULL OR EMPTY? Do you know the phrase โSemper Paratus?โ It means โAlways Ready.โ I like this motto. It might explain why I usually have a full gas tankย โฝ. I feel the same way about my phone batteryย ๐ฒ. During a family gathering at @horsemarkcards, my phone was at 60% & I wanted to charge it before heading back to Seattleย ๐งญ. I wondered if I was a weirdo, so I took a poll. I found people fell into 2 camps: ๐ผThose who keep their cars fueled & phones charged ๐ฝThose who drove until their vehicles were on empty & let their phones get to 2% Today I met @alanabramowitzย ๐ทย & I asked where he is on the spectrumย ๐? Weโre kindred spiritsย ๐ค. He calls it OCD, but I call it being preparedย ๐ฆธ! Is there a regular, in-between type? Iโve yet to find one. Maybe youโre the firstย ๐คท? Are you always prepared, or do you live dangerously? And how did you learn to driveย ๐ค? . .
