The concept of AU, which I was inspired by the Beasts from Cookie Run Kingdom, was that they were good at first and then turned evil for personal reasons.
Bill could work with Axolotl in pairs, help him with good deeds and all that, until his dimension was attacked by a Monster, which he could not cope with on his own (because he did not have enough strength for it at that time- Oh, and besides, this monster can eat you alive!).
Bill was angry at the Axolotl and the others for not being able to help him and save his home, his parents, and possibly his friends. This would be the reason why he decided to become different.
