In the note he mentions receiving a poetry broadside I had sent, along with references to Big Table, the new Poetry Center brochure, and recent writing. The address is 37 S. Wabash — the Center’s office at the time.

The photograph was taken at KC Clarke’s desk during Collins’s visit to Chicago to read as part of the Poetry Center’s public program. Stacks of Collins’s books are visible on the desk.

Copies of Big Table, the literary magazine founded by Paul Carroll, are also visible. These materials reflect Clarke’s early research into the Poetry Center of Chicago’s institutional origins and its historical relationship to Carroll and the Big Table publishing network.

Luke Carroll is the son of poet and publisher Paul Carroll, founder of Big Table. Ferlinghetti and Paul Carroll were contemporaries, and Ferlinghetti had known Luke Carroll since early childhood.
