A soft spirit, a strong spine, and zero interest in impressing the world.

1. Homemaking is holy.

Call it outdated, I call it sacred. I don’t clean my house because I’m “less than.” I do it because I’m building a sanctuary.

2. I submit to my husband.

Not because I’m weak. But because I’m wise. I trust the God who put him in my life to lead.

3. Modesty isn’t insecurity.

It’s confidence that doesn’t need attention. I don’t dress to attract the world—I dress to honor the Lord.

4. Being a wife and mother is not a “fallback.”

It’s a calling. A high one. The world won’t clap for it, but Heaven sees.

5. I won’t “tone it down.”

If truth makes people uncomfortable, so be it. Jesus never sugarcoated the Gospel. Why should I?

6. Feminism told me I needed to act like a man to matter.

God told me I was already valuable as a woman. That settled it.

7. My gentleness is not weakness.

It’s warfare. The devil can’t stand a woman who is quiet before the Lord and fierce in prayer.

8. Sex isn’t casual.

It’s covenant. If that sounds “old-fashioned,” good. I serve the Ancient of Days.

9. My husband isn’t “lucky.”

He’s loved. Prayed for. Served. Honored. And I’m blessed to be his wife.

10. I’m not living to please culture.

I’m living to please Christ. Full stop.

There is nothing sexier manlier to me than swearing fealty to that which you respect.

And while again, it gets weird when you consider the way that organized Christianity historically has been enmeshed with this, I do think it’s representative of what Christian masculinity is supposed to look like. Because American evangelicals like to sell this lie that it’s about dominance, about being better. But the guys that are like that? Are kind of total losers in the Bible. Like they’re heroes, but they’re bad ones (main one that comes to mind is Sampson, who repeatedly violated his Nazarite vow for vanity’s sake)

But that’s what’s appealing about masculinity for me. It’s not the sword the knight carries, but the way he kneels before his lord or lady. The way he will do whatever they ask. The way his strength comes not from himself but in his devotion to others and to his faith.

(This also potentially adds some more depth to my reading of Keats’ “La Belle Dame Sans Merci” as a depiction of a male rape victim, but thats another conversation)

I have more thoughts of this and who knows I’ll probs be rambling to myself about this for the rest of the week. But I think it explains why my relationship to masculinity is simultaneously extremely queer and extremely traditional. It’s a tradition that time forgot, and also one that I have to fight to break away from the harmful dynamics of class and institutional religion.

I sit in my boxers, thoroughly fed up with today’s eccentric global rotation. Too many weak opinions. Too much recycled pain. I’m ready to declare war on the sun for rising again.

Then she walks in.

And I remember why I haven’t burned it all down yet.

The way her hips rise to meet her waist — not obscene, not loud, just… sacred geometry. That slight gap between the gods and the damned — the one that’s brought down emperors, soldiers, and men with last names carved in history.

I notice it.

Not with hunger. With reverence.

I’ve known her longer than I’ve known peace. More moon phases than I have collector’s bottles. And still — I want to taste the parts she hides in decency, the regions baptized so she could walk among the unworthy without burning them alive.

Men like me don’t break under temptation. We break for meaning. We were raised with conviction — and it didn’t leave us just because the internet got louder.

Anyway. I digress.

She doesn’t say a word. Just turns toward the bedroom — and reaches for my wrist.

That’s all it takes.

Not a command. Not a performance.

Just a silent reminder that I made a promise with my eyes the moment she crossed the room.

Now I go to keep it — and remind God why He gave us skin.
