- you and firey started growing closer during the events of bfdia
- you did visit him while he was in the WTF, usually in between challenges, but even during, just to see how he was doing
- when he was allowed to host bfdia, he was ecstatic to see you again, but tried his best to be nonchalant to try to impress you
- I do think he would be very lost on how he feels about you, he’s very fond of you, he knows that! it’s more just like, he’s VERY fond of you and needs some time to articulate those feelings
- like I like firey as much as the next person but to deny that he’s kinda dumb is something else, so it would take him a while to fully realize what he felt for you
- he’d try to help you in challenges (and by help I mean cheat), whether you accept his attempts is all up to you.
- he probably tries to make you some gifts that could help you in challenges but they end up burning
- sometimes he gets so shy that he almost ends up burning the ground beneath his legs
- his glow tends to be just a biiiit brighter whenever you’re nearby
- and GOD FORBID if you’re a flirt, he’ll probably end up burning everything within his vicinity

Okay if we can request anything maybe something during BFDIA.
Firey misses Leafy and so decides to befriend Gelatin as a replacement as he’s also green. What started as a way to keep his mind off of Leafy eventually turns into a real friendship. Firey starts to actually like both Gelatin and his time with him. He eventually wants to start hanging out with him separate from being a Leafy replacement.
So basically a story where Firey has a fake friendship with Gelatin that eventually turns real.
Editor's note: My first request, and oh boy, it is one of the trickiest ones that I wrote. To be honest, I think I half-assed the ending here, so I am sorry if it is not satisfactory.
Nevertheless, I hope you enjoy this oneshot story and that you also give me some feedback on what I can do to improve my writing.
- Close enough -
Firey and Gelatin
Words: 1,611
“Don’t you remember me?” she says.
“...No.”
That is a lie. He does remember her, very fondly in fact, and it already makes his stomach twist.
His thoughts of guilt were interrupted by a loud bang, which, in turn, made a sickening metallic crunch, turning his old friend in front of him into a rugged silver corpse.
His eyes widened as his body jerked back before a voice was heard.
“Whew, that was close,” Gelatin said, “You alright?”
Firey snapped his face up and looked at the jelly fellow before rushing to speak.
“Oh yeah! Definitely! Just, strangers, these days are just so…” he twirled his hand a bit, briefly looking at the body, “strange.”
Gelatin looked at him with one of his eyebrows raised, giving Firey a sign that he may need to change the subject quickly.
“Hey! So uh, isn’t it time for Cake at Stake?”
“It IS, but Pin stabbed the Puffball Announcer with a knife!” Gelatin vexed.
A loud, enraged, auto-tuned voice is then heard from a pink ball of fluff.
“YOU DID WHAT?!”
It steered Gelatin’s attention away from Firey. He quietly sighed in relief before looking back at the ‘strangers’ carcass.
He recalls the time when they decided to be friends, when they were part of the cosmos, her green colours sometimes illuminate whenever starlight hits her. She was the first one who suggested it, and from that day, they became somewhat inseparable. Key word being ‘somewhat’.
He refused to let her on Dream Island, the prize that Firey naturally won, the reason being is because she didn’t accept his Ferris wheel with an added lava fall. Looking back on it, he admits that it is a stupid reason, but on the one hand, he put his heart and soul into his personal project for himself, and more importantly, for her and the fact that she rejected it really hurt him. On the other hand, he let Coiny in, the object he used to absolutely despise.
Nevertheless, his abdomen sinks whenever he thinks about her, despite how she wounded him in the past. He figures that this feeling won’t go away anytime soon and wishes that there were something to distract him and keep him grounded.
“So who’s the new host going to be?”
Firey looked at the source, Gelatin, as the sunlight bounced off his wobbly body, making him seem to radiate a green tinge. Green. Green. It’s close enough, right?
Firey walked up to him and tapped his shoulder, “No worries, Gelatin. I’ve still got my replacement Speakerbox!”
—--------
“So you're saying you want to be friends?”
“Well, yeah…”
“Alright,” he shrugged, “I’m down.”
After Cake at Stake, it didn’t take too long for Firey to ask Gelatin to be his companion. It also didn’t take him long to accept it.
“Really? Th-that’s it?” Firey asks as his eyes squirted a bit.
“Well, yeah, I have nothing better to do.” Gelatin answered, “Plus, you seem like a chill guy. Or should I say a hot guy, because, y’know-”
“No, I don’t, but thanks,” Firey says in a blank tone.
“Nickel! Do you want to join our team?”
A voice was heard, cutting their conversation short.
“Huh, looks like there is another team swap.” Gelatin walks towards the scene, “You coming, bud?”
Firey looks at his ‘partner’ before he follows him, pondering on his words. They aren’t going to be real friends; he just wants to get that out of the way. Gelatin is the new contestant, so of course, he is more prone to accepting offers, and that includes being together. He doesn’t know him well enough, and he certainly doesn’t know him. He kind of feels conniving doing this to Gelatin. It makes him seem like he only sees him as a stress toy or a doll that he can talk to, which, yeah, it kind of is, to be honest. But he just needed something to take his mind off her; he needed Gelatin to take his mind off her.
It’s selfish, and he knows that, and he also knows that this friendship will be temporary and doesn’t mean anything. Both of them will probably forget that they were even an alliance after this season is over.
—--------
“Gelatin! What were you thinking!?” Fries yelled.
“I told you! There isn’t any room up here!” Gelatin responded.
“We can’t win. The challenge. Unless all our team members get to the end,” Fries put out his hands, “Do you know what that means?”
“...What does it mea-”
“WE NEED TO GET THEM BACK!”
Firey stands by while Fries scolds Gelatin for throwing their three team members off of Puffball into the forest, causing them to turn back to find them. He looks at the jello boy as rays of light shine on him like a spotlight, causing green hues to escape from his body. Green. Green. He is lost in his mind.
As he contemplates, he only comes to one conclusion: this is a dumb idea. This whole ‘sham’ of pretending to be friends is a dumb idea. And he really needs to stop his obsession with that damn colour. Honestly, it gives him a headache.
Of course, one of the best actions that he could do for this kind of feeling is to stare down at the crowd of trees, where their leaves rustled softly in the wind, chattering amongst themselves. Firey watched with a blank expression as his insides began to swirl again. Well, maybe not swirling, more like stabbing. Maybe Coiny does have a point about him not having a brain, and at this point, he really wants somebody to talk to him right now-
“Hey, Flame man!”
His train of thought stopped abruptly as his face snapped up, scrambling to find his words.
“Ye-Yeah? Yeah?” Firey repeated.
“You okay, dude? You were kind of zoning out.” Gelatin sits beside him. “I called you like three times.”
Firey put his head down, his mouth opening a bit before speaking, “I’m just-” He exhaled through his non-existent nose, “Just feeling a bit queasy,”
“Oh, right. You’re not a fan of high places, are you?” he asked.
He still kept his head down. “Sure, let's go with that,” he answered
Gelatin glared at him before rivetting his eyes to the sunny skies as he prest. “So, have you ever attempted to climb a mountain?"
Firey stayed silent before uttering these words. “Did you already forget that I’m afraid of heights?”
He laughed a little in response, “Well, of course not! I’m just saying if you ever tried.”
Firey slightly turned his face to Gelatin. “Well, I didn’t,” he says all happy-like, “Because you know why?”
“...Why-”
“I’m afraid of heights.”
Firey returned to lower his noggin.
Both of them stayed silent after this exchange. The only voice that they hear is the soothing breeze singing in their ears as their flyer, Puffball, glides through them, while Fries bobs his head up and down in a very unrhythmic beat. The chanting didn’t make Firey feel better, unfortunately. He puts his hand on his guts, grabbing them tightly. He felt he was falling into an endless pit as he rushed through the mocking air. He closed his eyes, trying not to see the foliage view underneath him. He felt pathetic. Like, using Gelatin as a way to cope with the fact that he can’t see her anymore? He laughed at himself quietly, before putting his fingers between his eyes, god why is he so-
“You know, I also get nervous and scared.” Words from Gelatin interrupt his thoughts again, “When I was a little dessert, I dressed up in a trench coat and looked for many bugs that I could find in the wild. I then put them in a bag and go to the nearest building or something, and set them down on the ground, while also kissing them, so they know I am not hostile.”
He continued, “And then after that, the bugs and I start dancing and hopping while we play at the infrastructure.”
Firey felt his quiet pain immediately disappear as he opened his eyes with his eyebrows furrowed and then fully gazed at Gelatin.
“What?” He says in a bewildered manner.
“I dunno, I just want to talk about my experiences,” The glob admitted as he shrugged “Also, I’m bored.”
Firey kept his eyes on Gelatin with a face of bafflement.
“So you used to smooch bugs while your nervous?”
“Hey, I gotta make them know that I am not malevolent.”
“Isn’t it kind of gross?”
“Hmmmm, not really. They taste dirty, however.”
They chatter away as the topic of Gelatin’s bizarre story slowly changes to them just talking about random things that they can think of. Firey doesn’t realise that seconds turn into minutes, and minutes turn into hours.
“So you own a steakhouse?” Firey asked.
“Yeah, and I sell very high-quality meat,” He answered, before leaning in closer, “just don’t look at the news today.”
Firey was about to question it before he stopped himself, and then touched his bowel. He realised it didn’t feel like a pitfall anymore.
Firey looked at Gelatin, his green tinge still escaping. “Uh, Firey? You doing alright?” Gelatin asked.
“… Yeah, better than ever.” He smiled, “Thank you.”
Gelatin stayed silent before he chuckled, “When did you become sentimental?”
Firey snickered as he punched his shoulders softly. “Because of you, dummy.”
Firey, although still convinced himself that Gelatin is just here to make him forget, wanted to give him something, but he didn’t know how. That was until he saw Fries lying out cold. It gave Firey an idea.
