‼️Please join us on September 11th ‼️ #NoDejahVu September 4th-10th is Suicide Prevention Week. This year we plan to initiate a global campaign for suicide prevention using the hashtags #NoDejahVu and #SelfieForSuicidePrevention. In 2016, Dejah Jones took her life after being relentlessly bullied. She was only 14. Dejah loved others, was kind, warm, thoughtful, and talented. At her great grandmother's funeral, she took a selfie with everyone present to let them all know, individually, they were loved. This was one of many beautiful acts of random kindness that characterized Dejah’s life. In her honor, we are trying to proactively get other people out there who are hurting the tools they need to survive, feel supported and validated, and have hope. We are challenging the world to post a selfie and tag it with #NoDejahVu, using their social media to encourage others, share resources, offer judgement-free listening, and commiserate with their own experiences. Dejah was a 9/11 baby. Her birthday would have been on 9/11. We are inviting the local community to join us Sunday, September 11th at 4:16 pm at the Foutain in Newport News City Center for an official launch of the #SelfieForSuicidePrevention campaign and to honor those lost to suicide with a candlelight vigil. We will be taking selfies in front of the LOVE sign and collecting and distributing school supplies this week. For those who can't make the event in person, please know that your online participation is valued. Take a selfie solo or with someone else. If you are uncomfortable with a selfie, you could take a picture of something that is sentimental to you, or of the candle you light in remembrance. Just know that your way of participating is valid, appreciated, and important. Just remember to use the tags #NoDejahVu and #SelfieForSuicidePrevention. #BeTheChange #BeTheVoice #BlackLivesMatter #suicideprevention #antibullying #DejahJones #ExplorePage #Explore (at Newport News, Virginia) https://www.instagram.com/p/ChgRMFxMDdM/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=
