Teddy appreciates the smile. Tegan reminds him of Mili -- nothing short of the highest compliment -- and it makes his chest ache to remember. But heâs veering off track, isnât he? Something strange. Something weird. Something that might just be his imagination, really. And wouldnât that be embarrassing? To get all... bent out of shape over a little overactive imagination. But he trusts Tegan not to mock him. He hopes.
It looked a little like Dad on the stairs-- Oh. Oh, maybe that is it.
âUm.â His voice wobbles ever so slightly, and his throat hurts; he canât look Tegan in the eye or else heâll start crying, the heavy weight of tears pressing behind his eyes. âI was outside, just watching people. Down the road? And it... it was walking. And nobody else saw it. And it had a hat. And... it was wal-walking funny.â A clearing of the throat. No tears yet, thank goodness. âLike itâs legs and arms were all... bent. Not at the knees or elbows, but other places. And...â He drifts. The image is clearer. âLike heâd had his neck broken,â he adds softly, staring off as his own hand comes up to protect his neck. âAnd then heâd been stretched out. All wrong. Not... alive.â
