5 things tag meme
I was tagged by @ckerouac, @darrenismydarcy, and @darriness. I am sorry it’s taken so long, but my new year’s spirit was dampened by my banking woes. I was not in a meme-y mood! But now... :)
5 things you can find on my blog
Glee/Klaine/a sense of continued regret that we never got a full season of Glee: NYC. Also Chris Colfer when he appears out of hiding. And the family: Will, Brian, and Cooper. Also Darren Criss. Because he is easy on the eyes, uber talented and occasionally does stuff.... Plus Mia who is awesome in her own right...
Adam Lambert (see also, Glee: NYC, subsection, regrets)
politics (the good and the bad... when it gets truly ugly I don’t usually bring that to my blog of sunshine and escapism) and news stories that made me think or brought me joy and renewed faith in humanity
Check, Please.
A revolving selection of MCU, Supernatural (not so much lately), West Wing, LOST, and other shows that have caught my attention.
5 things you can find in my living-room
Christmas tree. It’s coming down tomorrow. Maybe. Maybe Monday. We’ll see...
Books. Unread, half-read, to-be-read. Mum’s books, my books, books we’ve given dad that he won’t read but we had to try because we’re book people and can’t quite get around the concept of someone not wanting books.
Camera. I always keep it in the living room because my living room window is my Nature Channel and I like snapping pics of the ever changing scene.
wood stove and never-ending supply of kindling and logs. Somewhat depleted right now, tomorrow I have to load in.
Beautifully made giant fake poppies from our town’s now defunct professional theatre’s production of Billy Bishop Goes To War. The massive, heavy shell casing they sat in are downstairs somewhere.
5 things I always wanted to do
Learn archery
Visit Australia and New Zealand. So far, though. So far and so expensive.
Take cooking lessons. I’m a decent cook, but I want to learn mother sauces and all those foundations on which really GOOD cooking is based.
Do something with all of my digital photographs. I keep meaning to gradually work my way through and do proper, bound photo books. Then if my computer crashes and my library disappears (again) I won’t have a (-nother) near nervous breakdown over the loss of 5,000 pics...
Be more involved in town affairs. Not politics, but maybe the rotary club and food bank and actually attending town meetings.
5 things that make me happy
My mother. We’re best friends and I treasure her humour, her gentleness, her quirkiness, and her company in general. She is good, good people, my mum. <3
Walking or hiking. Seaside, woodland, hill or marsh. There is nothing like having the dust and cobwebs blown from your mind by being outside. I don’t do it enough. The gentle, aching fatigue after hiking in the hills by the sea is wonderful, and everything tastes better when you curl up for wine and cheese on the porch with friends after a day of walking, watching the light fade and the moon rise.
Being with old, tried and true friends. I am an introvert, in a big way, but there are a few people who I have collected along the way who my spirit welcomes as heartily as it does solitude. My best friend is a dork and a geek like me, but out going in ways I never will be. She is my soulsister and I love her to bits.
My garden. My plants, my birds, my chipmunks and little red squirrels, my oasis from humanity. Coffee on my kitchen steps in the morning in late spring, listening to the chickadees while the sun warms my face and the air smells like green things and promise.
Swimming. My parents called me their water baby. Alone in the lake, striking out for the far side, feeling the pull and strain of muscles and finding the right rhythm of stroke and breath. Treading water and feeling the water swirl and eddy around my legs, lifting my hands from the surface only to have an opportunistic dragonfly use me as a floating island, as it basks and flits away again. Also night swimming when the water is all black velvet and if you are very careful you can swim almost noiselessly through the darkness, cutting through the glass-still surface with a ripple and a tiny swish. This is one of my favourite things.
5 things on my to do list (aka some of my 2018 resolutions)
Buy a rowing machine. I have been thwarted twice this year already, once by high winds and blowing snow on the highway and once by bank fraud which pretty much sapped the money I was going to use to buy the rower. Once that is sorted, I’ll try again.
Be less involved in the lives and opinions of those who I work with. It’s the only way I will survive. My god they full of drama. I need less of their drama and more of my own. :)
Start saving for a big trip in five years or so. My best friend and I are planning a 50th birthday adventure. She’s a couple of years older so the when is up in the air, but I need to start saving now! We’re thinking Europe, but maybe further afield...
Be kind even when my head is going haywire. I am usually a fairly gentle and compassionate person, but when I am stressed and in A Mood, I can be very snippy, thoughtless, and passive-aggressively hurtful. I need to keep a check on that, because it’s usually those I love most who bear the brunt, since I keep myself so bottled up at work.
Start compiling photos of my parents and their friends from over the years, scan them and start working on a photo book for their 50th wedding anniversary this autumn.
5 things you may not know about me
I have a role-playing group that I have played with on and off for over two decades. It’s usually RoleMaster set in Middle Earth and my best friend used to keep logs of the games, so detailed they could have become the next edition of The Lost Tales.
I was premature and have webbed toes. Maybe that’s why I like swimming so much! :)
I have permed my hair fairly constantly since 9th grade. There have been breaks in between, but usually just to grow out the old so the new one won’t burn my hair. I am at the end of a “growing out” phase right now.
I was a professional theatre scenic painter for fifteen years (arthritis and a worn spirit did me in). I also ran wardrobe running (basically every aspect of costuming once the show is up and running) in a couple of theatre for ten years or so. I loved these two jobs, because it meant I got to know everyone from carpenters to actors. I miss the family of theatre a lot. Even if I don’t miss the politics and the physical pain.
I have never been good at math (this one is for @redheadgleek who caught me skimping on Five Things... LOL!). Okay, I’ll do a real one:
I was born in the US. Oregon, to be specific. But shhhh, don’t tell the US government. I snuck out when I was 11 months and have never looked back. **returns to sewing Canadian flags to all her backpacks**
I am so late getting to this that I won’t tag anyone, but if you want to do it, please consider this me tagging you!!
Edit: no wait! I am tagging @nadiacreek and @bespectacledcolfer because both of you have reappeared after hiatuses and it’s fun if you want to do it! :)
