The besom isn’t just a cleaning tool it’s one of the oldest household charms in folk magic. 🧹 ✨ Traditionally it guarded the threshold, protected the hearth, and marked the boundary between the living world and the spirit world. Because it was so tied to the home’s luck and energy, it was rarely borrowed, shared, or swept with after dark.

The besom has always been less about sweeping dirt, and more about sweeping energy. 🧹

In my practice, the New Moon is a good time to cleanse the home, and reset the energies at the beginning of this new cycle. There’s multiple ways to cleanse, reset, and refresh the energy in your space:

• Sweep your home from back to front with your besom or chosen broom.

• Add Moon Water or Florida Water to your mop bucket.

• Burn mugwort, lavender, and rosemary or other herbs to cleanse with smoke.
