Set in Spain, after the bombing. Bernie is still dealing with everything, and Tom the therapist returns :)

“Cameron claimed I favoured Charlotte,” Bernie tells Tom after their return from Holby. “Maybe …”

“Was she?” Tom interrupts gently. “Your favourite?”

“I don’t think so,” Bernie whispers. “But … I don’t know … maybe I did things subconsciously …”

Serena squeezes Bernie’s hand in support.

“Bernie, everything you and Serena have told me about Cameron, and — more importantly — his prison psych assessment tells me that you didn’t cause this,” Tom says softly but decisively. “Neither consciously nor subconsciously. Cameron had a narcissistic personality disorder, among other things. You can’t blame yourself for that.”

Serena gives Tom a small smile and mouths Thank you.

Bernie’s in Albie’s with her colleagues from Keller, but her focus is across the room on the team from AAU. They look like a family, and Bernie thinks the tightness in her chest comes from yearning for that feeling of belonging … and absolutely has nothing to do with watching Serena flirting with some guy. It’s not like—

“Green really isn’t your colour, Ms Wolfe,” Dom mutters, pulling Bernie out of her thoughts.

She frowns, genuinely puzzled. “What are you talking about?”

“That …” Dom nods towards Serena. “And your face. Relax, he’s gay.”

“It’s not—“ like that …

But Dom’s already gone.

No need to apologise. I wish I could help you. There used be to be a big Google Drive of clips, and I think you can find the episodes on places like DailyMotion.

But a source of HD episodes, I'm afraid I can't help you. I have my own stuff... somewhere (possibly two laptops ago, it's been an age since I've giffed those two lovely ladies), but even those were from other people so I don't feel comfortable sharing.

There's a project underway called @berenaremastered, it could be worth asking them. @batnbreakfast run a Zoom that used to show episodes so they may have copies and I've always seen them be polite on my dash.

I'm far more out of the fandom than I used to be (though the love for Berena never diminishes) but hopefully by putting this in the tags and pointing you in a few directions, you will achieve your quest!

Just a random day on AAU

Serena’s in her office trying to block out the complete descent into madness on her ward. She needs just a few moments of peace.

It’s Bernie’s day off, and the red phone has been ringing off the hook from the moment Serena arrived, headache already in place. That headache has only got worse and losing two teenage patients certainly hasn’t helped.

The door opens and a pastry is set down in front of her. When she looks up, Bernie’s smiling at her, already in her scrubs.

“Fletch called me,” Bernie says softly. “Eat, love. I’ll take care of the ward.”

“Congratulations.” Charlotte hugs Serena tightly. “Stepmum.”

Serena laughs. “Is that how you see me now?”

“It’s what you are.” Charlotte grins. “And for the record, I’ve seen you that way for a while.”

“I suppose I am,” Serena replies. “Another child at my age, who’d have thought?”

“Seriously though,” Charlotte says. “You’ve been her safe harbour from everything she’s gone through, and I wanted to thank you.”

“I love her.”

“You’d better! You’ve just married her …”

The laugh they share is loud and happy, making Bernie smile at them from across the room where she’s talking to Elinor and Jason.

Bernie was staring into the night when her phone rang. She set down her whisky to pick it up. “Dom, to what do I owe the pleasure?”

“Hey, Bernie! How’s life in the great wide east?”

Hearing Dom’s voice caused such a wave of longing for home she had to swallow hard.

“What’s the gay scene like over there?”

“I’m afraid I have no idea.” Bernie croaked. “Is that why you called?”

Dom hesitated. “How long do you think Serena’s going to wait, Bernie?”

Bernie sat up straight. “What do you mean? What’s—“

“I mean it’s time to come back.”

“Are you sure you still want this? Me?”

Serena smiles. “I am.”

“I’m not the person I used to be,” Bernie whispers. “That woman didn't spend every day wondering what parts of herself were gone forever.”

“You're still you. Yes, you're traumatised, but we're going to deal with that. Together.”

Bernie grasps Serena's hand. “I think I mostly fear that you'll figure out how broken I am. And you fell in love with the macho army medic, not … this.”

“I’ve regretted saying that every day since,” Serena croaks. “So much. Bernie, I love you in any way, shape or form.”

Bernie groans, the sound coming from deep within her chest. Serena’s been torturing her for hours, or so it seems. Well, torture might not be the right word but Bernie’s been on the edge for so long now that even basic vocabulary seems difficult.

“Serena, please,” she begs, and not for the first time tonight, but hopefully for the last time.

“Patience,” Serena hums from between her legs, the vibration driving Bernie even higher.

“Fuck patience,” Bernie rasps. “I’ll implode if you don’t let me come soon.”

“You won’t,” Serena replies but enters Bernie with two fingers nonetheless.

Bernie screams.
