“It’s a strange mission indeed that’s brought the Reverend Donald Omand on a 700 mile journey from his West Country home to the shores of Loch Ness. But Dr. Omand, just retired as vicar of Chideock in Dorset, has an appointment with the monster. It’s a coming together that the seventy-one year old doctor of philosophy doesn’t expect Nessie to particularly enjoy - because Dr. Omand is here to get the monster to change its ways...”
In 1973, a man named the Reverend Doctor Donald Omand exorcised Nessie.
Omand believed the following:
Nessie is an evil presence that induces the people of Scotland into black magic, divorce, and drink
It also puts them under the weather
There was a real Nessie once, who was a dragon, which is the devil
This Nessie is an apparition
He has previously exorcised this Nessie-entity from lakes in Sweden and Norway, where it takes the form of Storsjöodjuret and whatever Norway's lake monster is
Simple. Normal. Mundane. Omand did exorcise people, but predominately focused on exorcising locations of their bad vibes.
The townsfolk of Drumnadrochit disagree with the theory that Nessie may "do them a mischief"...
Nessie is the "kind, sweetest" monster - if it exists.
"I think they're under the weather when they see the monster."
"An English vicar been up today has exorcised the monster because he thinks it's having a very evil effect on the local community - driving them to drink."
*laugh* "Doesn't need a monster to do that!"
Omand says he would wait to see if his exorcism of Loch Ness was a success to do more exorcisms. Well it must have been, because in 1978 he exorcised the BERMUDA TRIANGLE by conducting equidistant exorcisms in Miami, Puerto Rico, and Bermuda itself.
Sadly there is no video of that (unless it's buried in one of the contemporary Bermuda Triangle documentaries), but a number of blog posts and podcasts citing the Fortean Times and a book titled The Man Who Exorcised The Bermuda Triangle. A thing that he did in 1978, and that's why no one talks about the Bermuda Triangle like they did when you were a kid (I presume he also exorcised the concept of quicksand)
