This KING TIGER TANK belonged to the German 2nd Company of the 506th Heavy Panzer Battalion and was hit, immobilized and abandoned by its crew near Duren in November 1944. The prized tank was captured by American troops and repaired by the 129th Armored Ordnance Maintenance Battalion of the 7th Armored Division. On December 15, 1944, the vehicle was put into operation and filmed by American combat cameramen. This video was included in a movie collection devoted to the European Theater of Operations. However, not long after being put back into action, German AT gunners took out the King Tiger in Geronsweiler - which is basically right next door to Duren.
This tank should have been sent back to the US for testing and display in a museum for us to see today. Alas, for propaganda purposes she was put back into action and destroyed.
