Benny Carter – Jazz Giant
Jazz Giant is an album by saxophonist Benny Carter, recorded in 1957 and 1958 and released by Contemporary Records.
This timeless music is beyond the simple categories of “swing” or “bop” and should just be called “classic” (Scott Yanow/AllMusic).

Benny Carter – Additions To Further Definitions
This LP is a reprise of Benny Carter’s brilliant Further Definitions session of 1961 and, like most sequels, it is not quite on the same level as the original. Utilizing five saxes (Bud Shank and his own altos, tenors Buddy Collette and Teddy Edwards and baritonist Bill Hood), Carter’s arrangements for six of his originals, “Fantastic, That’s You” and “If Dreams Come True” are colorful, although the solos are less memorable than on the earlier session; who could replace Coleman Hawkins? But, evaluated by itself, this date (Carter’s only small-group album from 1963-75) has enough enjoyable moments to be recommended – AllMusic Review by Scott Yanow.
