The 100 dead witches thing seems more like mass lynching/massacre than it does a witch hunt.
Talk about main character energy:
At almost every step of the way a Bennett witch was connected with the doppelgängers throughout their history so in a way Bonnie was just as fated to be mixed up in all of it as any of them. Her Bloodline was what created the immortality spell that started it all with Qetsiyah . It was because of her ancestor Ayana that the original family came to the new world where they met Tatia . Emily was there in 1864 with Katherine and the Salvatores. Abby was the one who put Michael down when he came to town looking for Elena when she was younger. And Bonnie Bennett herself was childhood best friends with Elena. The Bennetts were truly in on all of it.
I’m gonna say it.
I hate when people make Bennett OCs whose only purpose in the story is to sacrifice themselves and die for the greater good.
It’s just a weird choice to me.
Imani
Eldest daughter of Ayana
It's a sealing spell. We're trying to open something...Not seal it shut.
No. Right here. On this side. It's a blood knot. It means to bind it you need two generations. A bloodline. Like...two keys to a safety deposit box.
3:13 - Bringing Out The Dead
When I died the witch Ayana preserved my body with a spell. She was a close friend of mine, an ancestor of your friend Bonnie.
So that's why only Bonnie and her mother could open up the casket.
3:14 - Dangerous Liaisons
The blood knot required two witches to be bound. Two witches of the same bloodline but of separate generations. In order to seal the Original Witch in her casket and preserve her body within, Ayana required the help of her firstborn.
As Imani looked into Esther’s pale dead face before the coffin was sealed, she remembered the woman’s children. The five who had fled into the night without a trace just hours prior, and the sixth who had been torn apart by wolves a fortnight ago.
Imani had grown up alongside Esther’s children. Every first she had ever experienced had been shared with them.
Her first steps had been shared with Rebekah.
The flaxen haired girl was two months older, but Imani had been determined to keep up with her. From the moment they learned to walk, they would go everywhere together hand in hand.
Her first spell had been taught to her by Finn.
The eldest Mikaelson never practiced himself. However, he knew enough about the craft to talk her through lighting the candle that her mother had set in front of her that morning. Finn had sat beside her all afternoon until the wick sparked with a flame.
Her first dance had been offered to her by Elijah during the celebration of midwinter.
She had been ten and gangly while he had been seven years her senior, tall, handsome, and with several young women vying for his attention. But he held out his hand to Imani when he saw her standing alone and danced with her by the fire light.
Her first kiss had been stolen by Kol when she was fourteen.
He had caught her by surprise, swooping down from up in the trees where he had been climbing and landing in front of her and Rebekah when they returned from gathering herbs in the woods. He took her face in his hands and pressed his lips against hers and ran off before she had the sense to whack him. Rebekah took care of that when she chased him off with a stick as Imani stood in shellshocked silence with her fingers touching her bottom lip.
Her first witch’s talisman had been given to Niklaus when he asked for it.
Her mother specialized in creating talisman’s. Imani’s craftsmanship seemed crude in comparison, but she still spent hours painstakingly using her magic to forge the silver around the small moss agate stone. Niklaus had helped her weave the leather strap that would serve as the chain. She watched the careful movement of his hands as he worked and gave him the necklace once it was completed. He would not get much use out of it since he had no affinity for magic, but he grinned all the same when she handed it to him. Now that she knew how to make them, she could always create more.
The first corpse she had seen had been Henrik’s.
Her father had died years before, but Imani could hardly remember him, let alone remember his death. She remembered the warmth of the furs he used to wear when he held her and the sound of his boisterous laugh rumbling out of his broad chest. But she never saw him die, nor had she seen his body. One day he was there and then the next he was gone.
But she remembered Henrik’s body when Niklaus dragged him back to the village. She remembered the violent bloody gashes across his neck and chest. She remembered Esther’s wails carrying through the day and the night. She remembered holding tight onto Rebekah as she cried herself to sleep.
Imani had grown up alongside Esther’s children. Which was why she couldn’t understand when her mother told her that she needed to stay away from them.
Her mother told her that Esther had cursed her children and that Mikael had killed them. She told her that they were all as dead and gone as Henrik, even as Imani saw them walking around the village. She told her that these were not her childhood companions, but creatures of death that wore their skin and consumed the blood of the living.
These were monsters that would kill her without a second thought if she let them too close.
That was why Imani kept her distance if any of them came too close. That was why she practiced her defensive magic every night in case they came for her. That was why she would not invite Rebekah into her home when she came to her door in tears after finding Esther dead.
Now Rebekah and her siblings had vanished into the darkness, and Imani knew not where they had gone. Now, Ayana had Imani help her dig up Esther’s corpse from the grave her son had dug. Now, they would use a blood knot to seal her away in a box and preserve her.
‘Until two of your bloodline release her.’
‘Why?’
Ayana’s eyes were cold as she looked at the sealed casket. ‘So one day, she can undo the plague she has brought upon this world.’
Niara
The Salem witch
Was our family burned in the witch trials?
No, the girls that were persecuted in Salem were entirely innocent. You have to have more than ignorance to trap a real witch.
1:07 - Haunted
The Blessed Bloodline goes back to the very beginning of witchcraft, when the first witch pulled power from the earth and from the stars to create the first spell. However, the first of that line to take the name Bennett was a woman known as the Salem Witch.
Not much is known of where she came from or how she ended up in Salem in the first place, only that the town was in ruins when she left it.
Some believe she fled the carnage and managed to escape into the wilderness. Others believe she was the one who had instigated the witch hunts herself. Allowing the humans to be dragged to their deaths while the true witch among them escaped detection.
What we do know is that Niara Bennett used all that fear and hatred and death to fuel a spell so powerful, that every supernatural creature on earth at the time felt the shudder from it.
The spell was used to create an artifact. A grimoire, that would allow the Salem Witch and her descendants to access any grimoire of their bloodline, even those that had been destroyed or lost to time.
It was a powerful object and dangerous in the hands of those from oldest witch bloodline. However, most assume this grimoire was destroyed in 1790 when the Bennett coven burned, as no one has seen it since.
Ernestine
Daughter of Emily Bennett
Why would Emily...? Why would she do this for you?
Because she knew they were gonna come for her, too, and she made me promise that her lineage would survive.
I remember. You saved her children.
1:09 - History Repeating
When Emily sealed 26 vampires away in the tomb beneath Fell’s church, Damon Salvatore swore he would ensure that her lineage would survive. He was able to save Emily’s children, but he was unable to make it in time to save Emily herself as she was burned to death where her ancestors burned 100 years prior.
Ernestine Bennett had been 6 years old when she witnessed her mother’s death. Her little sister, Rose, had been to young to remember the event. At only two years old, she could barely understand what was happening.
But Ernestine remembered everything.
She remembered the bright flames. She remembered the smell of burning flesh. She remembered her mother yelling out a demand to a shadow in the darkness.
‘My girls! Save my girls first!’
She remembered the vampire that snatched up her and her sister. A man with dark clothes, dark hair, and eyes so sharp and crystalline that they gleamed like shattered glass.
Most of all she remembered the screams. She still heard them even as the vampire scooped her from the ground and spirited her away in a blur.
Not her mama. Mama refused to scream.
But her uncle screamed. Rose screamed. The crowed screamed out their fear and hatred into the night air as the smoke rose high above the trees.
Ernestine screamed loudest of all.
