I mean I know they both have girlfriends but their interactions are so… interesting… all phases of their friendship (including the toronto fight), I don't know I see a difference compared to other friendship between tennis players
HELLOOO! Yesss, and I wrote all this before what we witnessed in Halle a few weeks ago 😅! The dynamics between them are something I cannot see in any other pair of players, it's so intriguing...
Before Halle (who am I kidding, even after Halle) I would have bet that the reason why they were on the outs was because Ben wanted more from Flavio, like a friendship a little more deep and exclusive, something similar to what Flavio has with Edoardo Bove... The legendary Toronto fight looked like a jealousy outburst, with Ben saying several times "but we're friends, no?"; he seemed to me he expected more from Flavio than what he got.
Then Flavio probably was pissed and tried to put a distance because he was not sure what Ben wanted... Then fast forward to that soccer date, the Munich final and then the doubles. I've never seen Ben so happy as when in court with Flavio, like literally a puppy. But I was also surprised to see Flavio so indulging with him, and looking at him as well with so much affection.
I do think there's still gonna be angsty moments between them, but it warms my heart to think they have a genuine fondness for each other. Ben is gonna have to fight half of the tour now that Flavio seems so beloved by everybody 😂 but it seems Flavio chose Ben as well, and he made sure to express that loudly (those 10-something IG stories with Ben were crazy).
And no matter what happens in the future, we'll always have Halle 2026😉.
