the way tom barnaby has a huge soft spot for ben jones is crazy actually. ben messes up so many times and gets away with all of it because barnaby always forgives him. he lost a whole ass murderer once and was not fired. the closest he thought he got to that was when he had to snitch on tom to the superintendent and feared he was getting demoted. which of course barnaby was never gonna do because that's the most loyal and devoted sergeant he ever got since he picked him up from the streets. you're not going anywhere lad

One of the things I always liked about Midsummer murders is the bat shit crazy rationales for some of the murders. Incestuous siblings wanting to inherit a million dollar estate from her extremely old husband. After they killed his wife. Crazy lady so obsessed with her dead brother, he died from AIDS and she kept her former sister in law hoping to watch her die, and her family legacy. WWII veteran killing members of another family because of some old family rivalry. The list goes on and on.

I’m rewatching ‘Last Man Out’ and struck all over again by the idiocy of Brighton police putting Jones - Midsomer local and cricket player - undercover as a cricket player in Midsomer. As if there’s not a very strong chance of him bumping into someone he knows from his multiple decades right there doing just that. I can only surmise no one else in Brighton could be trusted to hold the cricket bat the right way up.
