i. wrote. SO. much today. so much for waiting until the actual start of nano. this is the most words i have written in one day ever.

new wip/the thing i’ll be working on for nanowrimo even though it starts in a month announcement: behind the waterfall

A very brief synopsis: Alice is a very lonely vampire, and Cascade is a witch who can control water. When Alice comes across Cas in a forest late one night, she is absolutely captivated by what she sees. 

(such a corny synopsis but it’s gay and got contemporary mythical creatures set in present day) (so) (yeah)

“I am in a tree. I am a vampire, and I am in a tree. I am a vampire, I have sworn off getting close to mortals, and now I am in a tree watching the beautiful blue eyed girl making creating waterfalls out of nothing. The girl who is clearly not human. When she disappears into the water, I jump from my spot in the leaves and take off towards my apartment, hoping i make it before the sun comes up.”

nanowrimo: day 1

soooo happy nano!! today i focused on re-writing the grace backstory, which is my favorite part of the whole draft so far :-)

favorite line:

Her and Grace met in a poetry workshop. They first spoke during a partner critique. Aspen remembers every moment of that day, from the honey color of her shoulder length hair under fluorescent lights to the pink satin ribbon she wore around her wrist to poem she wrote. The poem, a poem that read like one of Aspen’s own poems. It was a soft poem full of yearning for lips and hands. And every time the words ‘he’ or ‘him’ came up, they were accompanied with another word that she couldn’t make out because it had been covered in black ink. Aspen never commented on this, but found it easy to open up about writing and life in the weeks to come with the suspicion of what it could say. Grace and Aspen. They were like puzzle pieces, or magnets. Drawn to one another and fitting perfectly. And so, Aspen fell in love.

i made a little progress. not much, but some. i just have to get through writing the next few scenes before i can start writing some gay shit!! and it’s good to get into the groove of my story before nano actually starts

“I always feel comforted in the coffee shop. It’s totally hipster-esque with all the typical indie features. Soon I’ll be able to light a fire in the fireplace in the corner. The dark wooden tables are mostly empty, just one teenage girl sitting in the corner. There are fairy lights lining the ceiling and edison lights hanging every few feet or so. We feature art every week and sell independently published books, and this week it’s embroidered female nudes, which is my pretentious gay ass’s favorite thing ever. Next week it’s one of my classmate’s chapbook. We even have a mini library, mostly poetry.”

finally finally finally was able to get some words on the page today. i decided to write the story from both perspectives (charlotte and cascade) so today i focused on catching up on cascade’s part. i started her part farther ahead in the storyline than charlotte’s, but i’ll probably go back. i’m really proud of my persistence and determination to keep working on this, i usually would have given up by now- this time it’s different!!

favorite line: 

I chose my name for two reasons- one is that it literally means a small waterfall. Of all forms of water, waterfalls are my favorite. They’re wild and uncontrollable (unless you’re me, who can in fact control water) and beautiful and dangerous and sometimes cast rainbows in the spray. The other reason is for the cascade effect: one little thing can affect other things in a big irreversible way, like a drop in the ocean creating a tsunami on shore- not that I’ve done this. But I am a little thing who affect very very big things, and so I am Cascade, a cascade.

like i said, i probably won’t get any writing done until tomorrow- i worked 28 ish hours in 3 days and went out for my old school’s homecoming last night (yikes) so check in tomorrow for an actual update and a better writing week xoxoxo

behind the waterfall: day 17-29 (10.18-10.29)

i didn’t work on behind the waterfall for 2 weeks because i didn’t have the energy and got stuck and blah blah blah but luckily i dropped down to part time at work and got my life under control

i decided to rewrite the 9717 words i have in third person limited which i like a whole lot more. i feel i’m able to capture the story more objectively even though i’m only about two or three pages in. i hope to have it done by the official start of nano and use that word count as my 50,000 word starting point

i also changed charlottes name again to Aspen and i’m not entirely sure why i vetoed this name in the first place because it’s so cute 

last, i’m fairly certain i mentioned this but i’m telling the story from both cascade and aspen’s perspectives (in third person of course)
