βTo me, photography is an art of observation. Itβs about finding something interesting in an ordinary placeβ¦ Iβve found it has little to do with the things you see and everything to do with the way you see them.β β Elliott Erwitt

#Repost @canonusa with @make_repost γ»γ»γ» #BehindTheShot with #CanonExplorerOfLight : "Since the beginning of my career, I have always been far more interested in the behind the scenes of a photo, than on the actual finished product. Why? Because the BTS reveals the puzzle that the photographer had to solve to create a photograph. In this case, I photographed a fellow photographer named Lana Polic in Rijeka, a city in Croatia. This city is filled with abandoned buildings completely open to the public. We were working on a heavily overcast day, with not much light coming down from the sky. Considering Lanaβs black hair and black clothes, I immediately made two lighting judgement calls. 1: The light coming from above will be used to illuminate her face with her chin up. 2: Lanaβs hair and black clothes will need a boost, so I used an LED light panel to reveal detail from all the blacks. This is a crucial step for a great print. The graffiti-filled walls in the background added the perfect complement to the 'Rocker' style and feel I wanted for this portrait of the great photographer Lana Polic. Always a fun challenge to photograph fellow photographers and create something special for them." πΈ #Canon EOS R5 Lens: RF70-200mm F2.8 L IS USM Model: https://www.instagram.com/p/COWqTR4lNlq/?igshid=10t91zdfa6uxo

πΉπππππ π₯ππ π€πππππ€: A true example of βπ°ππππππππ ππ πππ ππππ ππππβ. the morning of this shoot ranks pretty high up there as one of the most miserable moments of my life. My photoshoot in Tulum was supposed to take place at 9 am. Unfortunately my photographer was a half an hour late, which left me waiting in the sun and the 80+, 100% humidity heat. By the time she arrived, my makeup had practically melted off, my styled hair was no longer curly, and my hair was stuck to my neck from sweat. I think I got a mild case of heat stroke, and know of course now that I was pregnant (unknowingly at the time), which Iβm sure didnβt help matters, as I was emotional, frustrated, and pissed off that I was paying someone to take photos of me at a time when I felt the MOST unattractive. By the time this photo was taken, I had nearly given upβthus the top knot hairstyle, which was strictly in an effort to get my hair off my neck and cool off a bit. To make matters worse, my phone didnβt have cell service, and I was unable to contact my friends and travel companions to let them know I was going to be late, which resulted in one of the worst fights Iβve ever had while traveling with someone. π’ So you see, IG is certainly not real life. Behind that smile is not always sunshine and rainbows. Just remember that when your IG feed is flooded with beautiful smiling girlsβ24/7βand you make the mistake of comparing those smiles to whatβs going on in your own life. Itβs not real (a lot of the time), so cut yourself a break. π πRaw Love, Tulum, Mexico #IGisnotreallife #instagramisnotreallife #bts #behindthescenes #behindtheshot #wherecanamericanstravelnow #travelnow #tulum #mexico #tulummexico #mayanriviera #rivieramaya #travelgram #traveldiaries #travelaway #sidewalkerdaily #bloggerlife #travelblog (at Raw Love Tulum) https://www.instagram.com/p/CLrgHskBbnQ/?igshid=1q050kmdgc05

Iβm known primarily for my concert, sports action, and portrait work. Landscapes are not really my thing, but I wanted to make a unique photograph of the Bow Bridge in New Yorkβs Central Park. The famous location has been featured in movies and photographed from every possible angle, so itβs not easy to come up with something new. With my Canon EOS 5D Mark IV and EF 16-35mm f/4 IS USM on a sturdy tripod, I added a Hoya R72 infrared filter on the lens and used a cable release to capture this two-minute exposure. The filter blocks most of the visible light, but allows the infrared spectrum to pass through to the cameraβs sensor. Thanks to the long exposure - and some creative post processing - I was able to make a surreal image of a popular tourist destination." πΈ #Canon EOS 5D Mark IV Lens: EF 16-35mm f/4 IS USM https://www.instagram.com/p/CKGJEV8Aqhq/?igshid=w74tt1gtn3kn
#Repost @canonusa with @make_repost γ»γ»γ» #BehindTheShot with #CanonExplorerOfLight _photo | "This photo is very personal and important to me. This is wrangler Joe. He was gracious enough to let me take his portrait during my lighting workshop in Tucson AZ. Not long after this portrait was taken, Joe had a major accident with a horse and left him incapable of riding again. He has been riding horses his entire life. I chose this room to take this portrait because he made all the saddles you see in the background. However, the room was very dark, even in the middle of the day. In order to illuminate the saddles in the background, we used a strobe with a very large umbrella as the light modifier. To create the feeling that Joe is being illuminated by an open door that leads you outside, we used a strobe with a beauty dish. Why a beauty dish on an older gentleman you probably are asking yourself? Because a beauty dish is a mid-hard light modifier. It is the perfect tool to create texture on his face and appreciate his years of experience. I printed this photo on a Canon imagePROGRAF PRO-4000 and had it framed beautifully with old barn wood. The expression on his face when he saw the printed and framed photo was the best gift to me as well as the reason why I absolutely love being a photographer."
