Update on my little servo skull! He's painted now! Almost ready to become the belt buckle/cable holder he was always meant to be xD

I don't have any fun, new, digital art to show for myself. Most of my time has been sunk into life obligations and comic work, but I have been dipping my toes into sewing (and have been working on tufted stuff, but idk if I'm proud of it enough to show it off yet, ha!)

I used the pattern from this etsy listing, in case anyone else wants to try it out. It's meant to be for a machine, but I did it by hand because that's what relaxes me, and it worked just as well.

beginner craft:

energy work is a great fundamental skill, and you don’t need any tools to learn it. heres a good exercise in working with energy to get u started. windvexer has a ton of good energywork resources on their blog! meditation in general is good for you, so heres another link to their blog and a few different types of meditation.

a few meditation tips:

meditation is tiresome, dont burn yourself out

its ok if at first you can only meditate for even a few seconds at a time. i had to work my way up to it but now i can comfortably go for about half an hour.

its okay to move while meditating, as long as your mind is blank! i have a friend who stims while they meditate, and another who knits. find what helps you focus and go with it

heres a guide to grounding. i do the root grounding - i envision roots growing out from my feet or any part of my body touching the ground, binding me to the earth so we can partake in healthy energy exchange.

white candles can be substituted for any color, and clear quartz can substitute just about any stone.

make sure you cleanse any tools you buy before u use them. here are a few methods of cleansing :D

casting a circle around yourself and your workspace whenever you do magic is a good habit to get into. even if youre not doing anything particularly dangerous, having that focus+protection is a good thing

budget/secret craft:

tons of generic spice cabinet spices have good magical uses, so take a look at what your family has and make note of what their magical uses are. it also probably wouldn’t raise any eyebrows for you to buy a box of, say, rosemary, at the grocery store.

heres a method of burning herbs/incense that’s not as smelly and more discreet, as it can be made with household supplies (all you need is the herb in question, a tealight candle, and tinfoil)

tea lights are cheap and nice, and fairly easy to explain away. they almost always come just in white, so they’re a good basic starter candle that you can buy a ton of and use as needed. if you need to personalize them or add secondary meaning, try dressing them with spice cabinet herbs with relevant meanings.

if you want access to moonwater at times besides the full moon, leave a water bottle outside for the water to be charged in the bottle. it’s less conspicuous than a bowl of water sitting out, and you can just say you forgot it.

ripping up sigils is a good method of activation thats inconspicuous and leaves no trace of their presence

a grimoire can easily be kept in a word document or a generic school spiral, and you dont need to keep one at all. do whatever u feel is safest.

stichomancy, pendulum divination, and scrying are very easy to conceal, if you want to get into divination. there are also tarot card apps you could install on your phone if you can’t just go out and buy a tarot deck.
