Speaking as a beekeeper here:
Please do not put out sugar water for your local bees, or attempt to revive a tired bee with sugar water.
Beekeepers know what they're doing when it comes to supplementing their colonies with sugar water. The average non-beekeeper doesn't.
I don't know who started this idea but it's a terrible advice from people who aren't knowledgeable about bees.
It does more harm than good, especially if there are hives in the area.
A simple plain water station, keeping wild flowers, not using pesticides, and planting pollinator friendly plants go a long way to help the bee population.

In certain African regions, a bird known as the honeyguide cooperates with humans to locate beehives. The bird leads people to the hives and, in exchange, humans break open the hives for the honey. The honeyguide then feeds on the beeswax and larvae, benefiting from this ancient partnership.
