swd ascends, leaving his brother cursed to death all alone, with both of their parents dead. hx meets sqx just before he can meet his supposed fiancée, the one chosen for him by his ancestors. he immediately falls for sqx’s bubbly personality in spite of his doomed situation, so hx promises himself to protect sqx at all cost.

except, hx can’t guard sqx from his own brother as sqx himself is the one approaching the monster. hx lets sqx try to befriend his ge, but swd is too extreme. they were out on a voyage when sqx saw his brother in the ocean. the thing is, swd completely disregards sqx’s call for his name. as such, sqx almost dies from drowning, trying to get swd’s attention. if not for hx’s help at the time, there is no doubt he would be dead by now.

after making sure sqx is tucked in the bed, asleep, hx goes out to shout at swd, chest heaving and infuriated, “i love your brother as if he were mine! i care for him like my own blood! i tend to him more than to myself! why can’t you do the same? how can you be such a negligent brother?! you’ll even let him rot alone? what did he ever do to you to deserve this treatment?” hx stops to take a breath. he has never spoken that much in his life, and yet the receiver of his complaints does not even spare him a single glance.
