When I got wind of the #bedstockchallenge, my first (selfish) thought was: “Oh yeah! Let’s hop on this hashtag so I can gain more followers once @pickupjazz posts it!” That’s kinda the world *I* inhabit far too often, in my mind. How does this benefit me, how can I become more known as an artist, etc... Once I noticed myself wanting to do it for that reason, I changed my mind about posting something. But then while driving from Vancouver, BC to Grants Pass, OR I realized that while I will never know what it feels like to be a child stuck in a hospital bed during the holidays, I relate very personally to anyone who has been bedridden for any reason because of my own crazy Lyme disease journey. Some of you know about that personal story of mine (probably because that’s how I met @avrillavigne and became her BFFFFF and started writing with her), but some of ya don’t. And I don’t talk about it too much because it’s such a superrrrr mysterious thing and to be honest, I’m still uncovering the ways that year of fatigued and scared out of my mind craziness affected me. Plus, even though I’m fully functioning and touring the world and making the music that I love, I want to make sure I’m 100% out of the woods and really ready to explain what I went through before I do a whole big post about it. So, while I don’t know what it feels like to have medicine pumped in at all hours or to have doctors hovering every moment, I DO know what it means to be fearful about the mysteries of one’s own body and to be stuck in bed for months at a time because of fatigue, oral medication or weird different-every-day muscular/nervous system things. So, I veryyyyy humbly offer this song to those kids out there that are scared, bored, missing friends, or just wish they could just get out of that dang bed. I’m rooting for you and I sit WITH you while I sing this song of mine and we’re all supporting you whether you’re in the bed or not! You don’t need to do nuthinnnnnnn to be awesome do just be where you’re at and know that we’re on your side! #zanecarney #originalsong #drivingincircles (at Grants Pass, Oregon)
