February Outreach Opportunities
There are many philanthropic opportunities for elementary-aged children, and no better way to teach generosity, empathy, and empowerment through action and service.
VALENTINES FOR VETERANS: Take this opportunity to show active and retired service men and women how thankful you are for all that they do! Create a Valentine’s Day card to let our veterans know they are not forgotten. Your letter needs to be addressed to “Valentines for Veterans”. Letters should be mailed to your nearest Veterans Affairs medical center, or drop them off in person. Please use this link for a list of all American offices, or call the VA toll-free at 1-800-827-1000 for the address of the closest facility.
100 ACTS OF KINDNESS: The 100th day of school occurs in February. As a class, create a list of 100 acts of kindness, and work together to implement these acts within your school and your community.
In honor of BLACK HISTORY MONTH, click on, or print, this poem about Rosa Parks. In the poem it reads, “I have a voice and I’m going to use it.” What injustice will you use your voice to fight? And how will you use your voice to fight it in a noble way to do what’s right?
2nd week in February is RANDOM ACTS OF KINDNESS WEEK. Create a kindness slogan such as “I believe in the magic of kindness,” and make posters and bumper stickers. Place them throughout your classroom, school, and community. Also, do at least one random act of kindness each day of the week.
February is RESPONSIBLE PET OWNER’S MONTH. Collect and donate paper towels, used towels, and blankets to your local animal shelter.

Just in case you needed something to do!
Sit down with your grandparents, or call them on the phone and tell them how much you love them. Ask them to tell you a story about what their life was like when they were your age. When you are finished talking with them, write a summary or draw a picture of the story that they shared with you. There is a lot that we can learn from our grandparents!
