Let's start with the Hatchlings—it's the standard why in which Cybertonians are born/come into existence in. However, this wasn't always the case as in Transformers: Tales of The Fallen #3-4, we learn that the AllSpark crash landed on Cyberton and used the soil of Cybertron to bring forward the first 7 Cybertonians, The Dynasty of Primes, who unlike the second generation (i.e. Jetfire, who served as the Dynasty of Primes' Seeker and Contructicons to aid in building Star Harvesters), were incapable of transforming their bodies.

However, they were able to teleport

...Yeah, man. This is just fueling my "Quintessa is a descendant of The Primes" propaganda. Like, she's not "The Prime of Life" as she claims, but she is from the linage of The Primes. She has uncanny powers such as telekinesis, electricity generation, mind control and whatever the fuck she did to turn Galvatron back into Megatron (she's the only explanation for how that happened). She also can't transform, which The Primes couldn't do, except for later generations.

MOVING ON—We have the Transformium and The Creators. I have like three scenarios with them (sidenote: FUCK THE TFWIKI PAGE FOR INSINUATING THAT THE CREATORS ARE SOMEHOW THE QUINTESSONS! THEY'RE MOST LIKELY JUST A ORGANIC SPECIES! GOD, I HATE THE TFWIKI!). The first scenario is The Creators and The Dynasty of Primes had a whole deal going where they help each other and stuff. We know that The Primes traveled the galaxies harvesting stars for the AllSpark, it's likely that they came into contact with other species. Once the AllSpark ran out of energy and The Primes died, The Creators probably saw no use for Cyberton and left them for dead.

The second scenario is that the AllSpark was created by The Creators using Transformium, but was considered a failure and casted out into the vacuum of space where it eventually landed on Cyberton and created life there.

The third scenario is combines the previous two scenarios, The Creators create the AllSpark, deemed it to be a failure and toss it out, the AllSpark lands on Cyberton and creates life. The Primes start harvesting stars for the AllSpark and run into The Creators who realise that these creatures are their failed creations' creations and decide to help them, however they lose interest around The Fallen's... fall.

Now, we're at the evolution and devolution part of this trainwreck of a thought process. As we have sort of established, many of the ancient fucks (no, Sentinel is not ancient, he's just old) that we see have some kind of... superpowers(?). Take the Primes for example, the Dynasty had all those abilities as mentioned above, but their descendants don't. The only thing that Optimus and Sentinel can do is telekinetically move the Matrix of Leadership.

So, our devolution here is that the Cybertonians lost powers that their ancestors had. Seekers lost their ability to Space-Bridge jump and later Primes lost most of their uncanny powers, but got the ability to transform their beings (that's a really shitty tradeoff, but whatever).

Also, sidenote—I think the Bayverse is the only Continuity that gives the Cybertonians a childhood. Like, they come into existence as Hatchlings and most likely have to grow and age. Older generations like Jetfire didn't have this childhood ("BUt wHAt AbOUt HiM TaLkiNG abOUt HAvInG PaREnTS?", dude is old and had been on Earth since before the Pyramids were built, he's probably a little senile) as they come into existence as fully grown. (Now I'm craving fics about a teenage Optimus, where are those fics at?)

The evolution here, however, is that they evolved how they come into existence—from being birth from the soil of Cybertron using the AllSpark to being hatched from Energon-infused pods (don't ask me how that happened, I don't know either). With that distinction, we can eliminate the Nokia phone, the Mountain Dew Machine, the steering wheel and the Xbox from 07' (and the kitchen appliances in RoTF) that were brought to live with the AllSpark as real Cybertonians. They basically machines brought to life that share physical similarity with real Cybertonians (the baby Dinobots in TLK are also not real Cybertonians as they're most likely created from Transformium that was probably laying around in Hong Kong after the battle with the KSI drones).
