Yeah! I definitely think before they hooked up, that Beth thought the only way it would happen is through him initiating.

Which makes sense in s1! The Beth of s1 is really still only starting to get any sort of sense of what she wants, let alone take it, and when she does, it tends to be impulsive. Add to that the fact that her only previous relationship has been Dean, a relationship where, as both s2 and s4 reiterated, Dean was the pursuer, I think any fantasy Beth had in those early days of a relationship with Rio involved him closing the distance and not her.

I forever love that it happened the other way around though. There's always a degree of force and threat in Beth and Rio's professional relationship, which makes it so much more important that that's gone from their personal one. Rio gives Beth space when it comes to sex and intimacy (even when it's pretty clear he wants to close that space, haha) and letting her be the one to decide is a significant power leveller for them, something that Beth especially craves.

Her being the one to initiate in 2.04 was driven by a mix of spite and genuine passion, I feel, as she wasn't just responding to Dean's failure to see her, but Rio's fixed and hungry gaze, and in that sense, it was the embodiment of that sentiment. She moved away from someone who made her feel powerless and towards someone who made her feel powerful, and it's a really pivotal shift in not just Beth's relationships overall, but in Beth's personal arc.

So I was scrolling through Facebook earlier when I saw a shared post in one of my mom groups. It was a picture of a piece of paper detailing how an 8th grade girl is only allowed 2 excuses from the class a month. Those breaks are for the bathroom, nurse, going to the principal, etc. The class, from what I could tell, had multiple subjects and the students would be in that class for almost 2 hours. There was a lot of comments of people saying they support it because “kids should stop chatting in the hallways” or “kids need to use the bathroom in the break between classes”.

Personally, I think it’s bullshit. There are young girls in 8th grade who have periods that need to be taken care of. What are these kids going to do when they’ve used their allotted breaks for class for the month and they suddenly get sick and throw up or they suddenly get their periods. Lots of schools only allow 5 minutes between classes.

I have had it happen to me where I’ve gotten in trouble for using the bathroom and then being late to class! In 8th grade I had my first period. I knew about them and I knew what to expect. A few months in to school and I had to change my pad due to heavy bleeding one day. As I was changing out the pad, the bell for my next class went off and I was late. My teacher asked me, in front of the entire class, why I was late. I refused to tell her why I wasn’t in her class on time, so she sent me to the principals office. It was a male principal, but his secretary woman was in there too. He asked me why I was late to class and became agitated when I wouldn’t say. I finally looked at them both and hollered “I’m on my period and I had to change my pad, okay?!” He grimaced and said “You aren’t in trouble, but don’t ever use that as an excuse again”.

It’s just wrong to try to make a kid hold in their pee during class. There are too many health risks. UTIs, bladder infections, kidney infections, or even life long problems emptying their bladders. I know a woman who was forced to hold it so much during class that she ended up with a lot of problems.

A new Star Wars is upon us, and The Last Jedi is sure shaping up to be one of the most polarizing films yet. For this reason, there’s much to dig into. Did it accidentally become a more successful Rogue One? Was the expansion of force powers too much? Should Rey and Kylo have taken less of the center stage? Where can the series possibly go from here? Is Finn accidentally everyone’s love interest?

Whether you adored it or were left cold, one thing can be universally agreed upon---its runtime is 2.5 hours. It’s also highly popular, if box office numbers are anything to go by. Therefore, once again we will probably be schlepping back to the theaters two or three more times for our own rewatches, along with the trips to keep less zealous family members company on their own first viewings. This means that it’s time for the most important analysis possible: when is the proper time to go to the bathroom?
