October 26, 2016 - [⚠️: murder, brutality, gun violence] by Calily Bien BASTROP COUNTY, Texas (KXAN) — The family of a single-#mother who was shot and killed while delivering newspapers in #BastropCounty in June is pleading with the public for any information regarding the suspect or suspects. On June 9 just after 4 a.m., #JessicaBrown, 32, was out on her second job delivering newspapers when authorities say she was “gunned down” in her car. Sheriff Rosanna Abreo says Brown was “shot repeatedly.” After getting shot, Brown’s car slammed into a tree at the corner of North Main Street and Old Highway 40 in #Bastrop. A woman who lived near the crash scene said she heard gunshots that morning. “It sounded like an automatic weapon the way it sounded, it shot too fast, it wasn’t just one shot,” said Betty Collazo. Authorities believe Brown wasn’t the intended target. “We believe Jessica was killed mistakenly,” says Sheriff Abreo. “We also know that the killers have talked about this shooting to other people and we are wanting these people to come forward to do the right thing.” Brown’s mom, Maria Jefferson, says the past four months have been a trying time for their family. “My daughter was a very caring and loving person,” says Jefferson. “Single mother, she worked two jobs to support her boys and herself. The kids keep asking who did it.” When the family took their yearly vacation the month after Brown was murdered, nothing felt the same. “That was the hardest vacation we had because she wasn’t there,” says Jefferson. “We need closure,” says Jefferson while tears stream down her face. “We just… it’s very hard to move forward.” #CrimeStoppers is offering a reward for any information that leads to the arrest and conviction in this case. If you have any information, you are urged to call 1-866-930-TIPS.
