This purple doublet is an excellent example of how costumes are altered and adapted for new productions. The piece likely originated with the 1955 film 𝑻𝒉𝒆 𝑪𝒐𝒖𝒓𝒕 𝑱𝒆𝒔𝒕𝒆𝒓, where Basil Rathbone wore it as Sir Ravenhurst. It is possible that it came from an earlier production, as 𝑻𝒉𝒆 𝑪𝒐𝒖𝒓𝒕 𝑱𝒆𝒔𝒕𝒆𝒓 did recycle some of its costumes.   The costume was used again in the 1961 film 𝑺𝒏𝒐𝒘 𝑾𝒉𝒊𝒕𝒆 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝑻𝒉𝒓𝒆𝒆 𝑺𝒕𝒐𝒐𝒈𝒆𝒔, where Guy Rolfe wore it as Count Oga. Blu Christmas Holiday Movie Asplosion 2022! ⛄ Chapter 27: We're No Angels 🦌 And another from that era, this time featuring Humphrey Bogart, Peter Ustinov, Aldo Ray, Joan Bennett, Basil Rathbone, and Leo G. Carroll. This wonderfully dark comedy manages to feel moreso due to when it was released. I find myself enjoying it more each time, and wishing to move it further up the list each year. Bogart is one of those stars that just manages to always be captivating in anything, and it's fun to see him in a straight forward comedy. Aldo Ray is an entertaining gem I forget about until I see this film again. And Peter Ustinov is basically comedy royalty, and is absolutely one of the highlights of the movie.
