Coprinus comatus
This striking mushroom is easily recognized by its elongated white cap covered in shaggy scales.
What makes it truly fascinating is its self-digesting mechanism. As it matures, the cap undergoes deliquescence, a process in which the gills liquefy into a black, ink-like substance.
This transformation helps release and disperse spores efficiently.
A mushroom that literally dissolves itself to reproduce.
