Hey, Kristen! So what are reigncorp like at a baseball game? Care to share your FEELINGS?😉
ME? reigncorp BASEBALL feelings? of all the outrageous asks... ;)
first of all, handsome sam LOVES baseball. its one of her favorite sports, and she owns jerseys and hats and has pennants hanging in her apartment for her favorite team. she is out of control ridiculous, but she looks hot af in a jersey, so lena really doesn’t complain too much.
(she finds this out when sam shows up to class in a jersey, and lena almost falls out of her chair at the sight because what. the. fuck.... and sam casually mentions that its the first day of spring training and lena is like... i don’t know what this means but you’re so hot so okay???? and sam just grins).
lena, naturally, is oblivious to most things sports related, but she doesn’t mind baseball, especially because lex is also a fan. everything she knows about the sport she learned from him, but she really likes hearing about it from sam’s perspective even more. she learns its a big deal for sam, who doesn’t talk much about her childhood but always mentions spending time at baseball games, so lena knows its special. she listens to her talk about it for however long she wants, because lena really cares about sam and loves seeing her happy, so by default, she becomes familiar with the teams and all the players. (of course lena makes fun in her usual way, but sam just rolls her eyes and tells her to stop being an edgelord and then they carry on with the conversation).
as the two of them get closer, lena even starts tolerating having baseball games on in the background while they study (because otherwise sam is just insufferable and constantly checking her phone and fidgeting, so this is the lesser of two evils). lena won’t admit that the more she learns about the game, the more she finds it semi-entertaining, particularly the statistics of it all. she thinks its fascinating that there are so many patterns in the numbers and predictive analytics to study pitches. sam notices lena’s complaints start to dwindle, but she doesn’t push it, because she now gets to enjoy her two favorite things at the same time: baseball and lena luthor.
eventually sam convinces lena to go to a game with her, because “there’s nothing like being there in person, lena!”. and lena resists at first, because sunshine and sports are not necessarily her idea of a good time, but sam promises they’ll get seats under the roof and lena knows she really can’t say no to sam once she’s super excited about something. So, naturally, she goes along. also did we mention sam in an open baseball jersey and hat? because... it’s happening. (also, lena may or may not have purchased her own hat before going, which she pulls out of her bag when they find their seats and sam’s smile makes the fashion monstrosity TOTALLY worth it.)
sam points out different players and whispers facts about them, and lena actually listens because she knows sam is really into it. the game is surprisingly entertaining, and lena, despite hiding behind her big sunglasses and hat, finds that she’s barely paying attention to her cell phone and actually getting caught up in the action. sam is on her feet cheering almost the entire time (she knows all the cheers, and knows how to toss out some great insults at the other teams bench) and lena just stares at her open mouthed (but secretly she’s kind of turned on whenever sam lands a particularly hilarious and snarky remark). everyone in their section LOVES sam, and she’s high fiving all the huge guys nearby whenever their team scores a run. they are the hit of section 105, and lena is almost proud to be part of it, even if she’s just a passive participant.
at one point, lena has had a few drinks and she starts joining in with sam’s comments. pretty soon the two of them are just trash talking the umpires and laughing hysterically, leaning close together and conspiring against the other team and their fans. lena is criticizing the poor officiating even though she can’t see from her seat what would actually be considered a strike or not, and sam is egging her on because she knows how lena gets. at this point everyone is sort of drunk and lena is slurring her words with a hint of an accent, and it’s the most entertaining thing sam has ever seen.
in the 9th inning, the score is tied and lena finds herself on the edge of her seat. she actually grabs sam’s hand while she’s watching their team’s batter step up to the plate....and when he knocks one over the wall, lena and sam both jump out of their seats in total excitement. everyone is high fiving and yelling and sam has lena in her arms and it’s a whole thing....and lena has never felt THIS excited about something so trivial, but its one of the greatest moments EVER and she can’t stop smiling.
the whole way home she doesn’t shut up about the game, and sam is just grinning like a fool listening to lena just go on and on and on about how amazing it was and how next time they need to be even closer and sam just raises her eyebrow and goes, ‘oh next time, huh?’ and lena looks at her like ‘duh, next time.’
and, true to her word, the following week, lena shows up in class and slams down two tickets on sam’s desk for behind home plate at the next home game. sam’s eyes light up and lena just smirks because she’s trying to play it cool but really she wants to go almost as much as sam does, and now she’s fully invested.
(and i mean literally, because the next year, they have box seats and season tickets and they go to almost all the games, because she’s a luthor, and that’s just what luthors do).
