Fortnight of Books 2024: Day 7
Most memorable character
Mr. Robert Audley from Lady Audley's Secret. He's lazy. He's unambitious. He likes dogs and canaries. He fusses over his pillows when he goes on a carriage ride. But he's the only person who can solve this mystery, and it turns out--he's tenacious. He's methodical. He's relentless. He's unshakeable. He's such a delight, and a huge reason why I loved the book so much.
Most annoying character
Mr. Slope from Barchester Towers is one of the only characters who has ever made me want to jump into the book so I can punch him in the face. He's mercenary. He's spiritually predatory. He's deceitful. He courts a widow for her money while lusting after a married woman. He purposely crushed the spirit of Mr. Harding, the sweetest most Winnie-the-Pooh man in existence--that alone is enough to put him on the list of Most Despicable Characters Ever, but all the other stuff also makes him a horrible person.
