Hidden Heart
Hardanger and bargello embroidery layered piece
I was absolutely delighted with how this piece turned out. The layered effect worked out exactly how I'd envisioned it.

A few months ago, I picked up a used book about early American needlework from the Winterthur collection. It included a section on canvaswork, and I found the pocketbooks incredibly compelling. This diagonal Irish stitch (or flame stitch, or Florentine or bargello or...) pattern is from this pocketbook:
Which I lost the link to, but I'll update this if I find it.
The embroidery is wool, and it's bound in cotton twill tape and lined in silk. I have been contemplating a more complex motif for the next one--there's all manner of delightful fauna, flora, and human figures to be found in the examples!-- and I'm torn between a good ol' fucked up Federalist period eagle and (thank you friend Em) the Tipu's Tiger.
Santi Buglioni, Noli me tangere, c. 1540
I stitched my first bargello piece 😁 Designed on the fly so I’m happy with the result😁
