As a little challenge i decided to draw a doodle or drawing for every title in UFO50's game collection, here's a little Barbuta knight to start it off!
UFO 50 has been a bright spot in my life the past couple of months, and I was really happy to see it on the GDQ stage! Drawings were all done by me, the painting was done by @natalieriess
my barbuta fanart

I've managed to master Barbuta, and fully beaten it without getting hurt at all, while getting all of the items, and I wanted to celebrate it with this fan art!
Also, here's the original size:
just finished the first game in ufo 50, barbuta!
i think what makes this game super interesting to me is the way it feels janky without actually being janky
like, the player character moves around pretty slowly, and you kinda have to commit to any jump you make
but its kinda built around that! theres never a time where i could blame a loss on the control scheme screwing me over
the whole "7 lives, no saves" thing felt like itd cause problems down the line at first but the game is built around that too! really when you lose you just get more info for your next run through, and once you get it down a run takes like 20 minutes tops
playing through this game was fun because i got to map out the game world (which i always love doing) and then put that map to good use! eventually though i got used to the game world enough that i could route through without my map which felt great too
i guess the only negatives i have are the mushroom guys on the left (theyre the only real jank in this game in my opinion) and the lack of music (it does set the tone but it can feel a little bland ig)
overall an 8/10 game! had tons of fun beating and cherrying it
next game is bug hunter!
you tellin' me there's 50 UFOs in this thing??? how'd they fit so many
