Barbie Roberts x Trey Reardon art | Barbie Dreamhouse Adventures
I'm a sucker for love-hate/rivals dynamics so this RR duo was definitely my piece of cake. I can provide a whole article on why Barbie/Trey is a good example of a solid and actually DEVELOPING slow burn relationship. The key factor is that the characters change under the influence of each other, open up a new look at things around and themselves as well. Barbie is the only one who truly believed in Trey, saw his inner talents and made him do the same. The Xmas vlog is the most obvious ex of how his desire to improve directly depends on Barbie. Being a kind and inspiring person, she treats Trey well despite all his antics. It's kinda funny she always was the first to learn his secrets, even charming for "enemies". Actually Trey fits perfectly with the type of a character who messes up with the object of his sympathy in order to attract attention but indirectly 'cause other way is embarrassing. In fact, I'm sure that Trey subconsciously likes Barbie, although given his immature behaviour, he rarely reflects on it (like B, he is less concerned about love at this stage but these feelings will intensify eventually). However when he thinks about the roots of his crush, Trey tries to brush it off and seems to convince himself this feeling is fake but the more Barbie smiles at him, the more he realizes he is doomed. She attracts him with her eccentricity, charm and sense of spirit. But his family is dismissive of the Roberts, while Trey himself is only forced to follow the imposed role due to fear of disapproval dreaming of the same family relationships.
Barbie and Trey are both nature-born leaders with no intention to lose but if Barbie perceives this rivalry more as a game (the beach episode/a dodgeball scene), then Trey's determination is much more serious. However the ability to combine their efforts for a common goal is what makes them a cool team. And I like that they often agree on mutual terms but it ends up unselfishly.
I'm aware that despite all the chemistry and potential, they won't be the endgame but I don't care, I'll have my own fanon with arts, edits and comics. p.s. the idea was inspired by "Chicken Masked Mystery On Ice" episode (duh) and the costumes by "Barbie of Swan Lake" movie (double duh). Since there is a bird theme in the original episode, I decided to go further combining the both (patterns on Trey's costume are also feathers if it isn't obvi).
